It's among the highest compliments a guy can render a girl. First and foremost, cheating is ruled out - the guy trusts you won't cheat & he desires not to cheat as well. The girl's a long-term prize, and the guy desires to spend decades demonstrating how he appreciates her. He's open to the whole shebang: ring, house, kids, retirement checks.

If a dude thinks wifey is for home & mistress is for the side, then he's misusing the term "wifey material" and is need of correction.. a wifey is a "check" of sorts, as in, the buck stops with her - she brings the man out of the boy.
