How do you give a surprise hug to a guy who’s taller than you?

So this guy i’m friends with gives me hugs and sometimes they’re surprise hugs from behind, whether it’s from the neck or the waist, and sometimes we just give each other a full on bear hug. I’m extremely shy, but I’m all for gender equality and I hate that guys always have to make the first move, it makes me feel bad for them. I’m 4’8 and the guy is like 5’8, so I kinda want to give him the same happy feeling I get when he hugs me, and who doesn’t love getting surprise hugs from behind when you least expect it? But as you can see, we have a pretty big height difference, and I want to hug him from behind, but I don’t really know how to. Should I like stand on my tippy toes and put my arms around his neck, my arms can go all the way around his back to like his stomach so should I do that, or something else? I just want to give him the same joy I get from his hugs 😉

I'm short too, so I usually hug tall people from behind while they're sitting on a chair. I just put my arms around their neck and my chin on their shoulder.
