I would smile back, and being a shy guy, it would make me more comfortable to approach her. Really that's what the shy guys need. A lot on here say they wish the girls made the first move. But what they mean by that is a girl just looking at the guy and smiling. She made the first move, made him feel comfortable. Now he can make his move.

However, with this being said, you can't just look at him smile and then turn away because he might think nothing of it and not approach you. A good example of this is when you walk by a guy and smile. I usually smile at random women when I walk by them, but I just keep walking. Same concept with women who do that. It can't just be a, "there I smile now back to what I was doing and he will approach me" kind of thing.

Hello. Shy guy here. It depends how I like her.

1) If I actually know who she is, and have a thing for her, I'd probably freak out inside and blush on the outside. Then I'd pretend I didn't notice and go back to what I was doing. This is assuming she's not my friend.

2) If she's just a stranger who I think is pretty, I'd get confused and wonder why she is smiling. Same would be if I didn't like her, or didn't care. I'd be confused either way.

im definitly shy but if you smile at them/me its usually a good reason I always smile back because I'm nice lol but most shy guys would like look down lol
