What do "x", "xx" and "xxx" mean? And what is the difference?

In countries like Great Britain, it's a common gesture of applying a friendly kiss after their statement. Think of it when people say "xoxo" in which that means hugs and kisses. In other words, if you see someone post an "x" after their sentences, chances are they either like you as a friend or agree with your comment! The more x's you apply, the more kisses they are giving you; the more interested they are in you.

For example:
"I'd often wondered about that and I appreciate your thought on it x"
This often taken as a friendly comment, could be a form of teasing if they like you enough.

"I'm not going to lie but that dinner was a really nice experience xx."
More of a flirty approach; that they definitely like you a lot.

"I thought maybe after dinner tonight, we could watch a movie and... possibly have a nice time alone xxx"
Many kisses are happening, the flirting is now turning into something more!

Sometimes though people will post multiple x's just for the fun of it! I know these x's can also be used in classifying the exposure level of nudity in porn videos but in conversations, it's mainly a friendly kiss!

Chances are in that scenario, she posted that many hearts because she really likes you! I wouldn't think it was meant to be sexual or just a trademark of how she types but I wouldn't know without seeing what she was talking about.

Anytime! If she's investing a lot of time in getting to know you, says really thoughtful/flirty words towards you and/or becomes defensive when you're being attacked physically/emotionally, you'll know she wants to be more then a friend to you! Basically, time being spent with you and her choice of actions/words will ultimately determine if she likes you.

That's a common practice in England in texts. it ends the text with a happy note. If you leave the "x" out is a way of saying I'm upset. One is nice, two is a bigger deal. Three or more is on the edge of being silly.

My source is from a podcast i heard from England transplants saying he had a talk with his mom because she got worred by his texts without the x.

Nutshell version...

“x” is used in friendly politeness to a somewhat close friend (guy or girl but typically guy) but not a stranger.

“xx” is used to very close female best friends and to guys who girls like but not love. It’s a step up from the friend zone but not yet love.

“xxx” is mainly used to guys who the girl loves (not necessarily in a romantic way either, could be platonic) although this isn’t a hard and fast rule. It’s mostly correct.
