Cat call vs wolf whistle?

Ok. I understand a cat call and that it's rude. However, my Dad would "wolf whistle" to my mom. I suppose I asked him at some point why he did that. He told me when you see a lady you like, then whistle at them. I've personally not really done this other than I used to with my ex after we were married. She never complained and it actually got her attention and somewhat turned on.

So my question is for the ladies. Do you see a difference in the two? A call would be pointing out something specific vs a whistle would be more "general".

Yes. There's a difference.

Depends on location/situation. Ie. At a bar vs on street or work.

If you want an HONEST answer. Ask you dad if he would be okay with a random guy whistling at his daughter (if he has one). If he doesn't then ask him if he'd be okay with someone doing that if he had a daughter. I think it's fine if a couple does it to each other but from a stranger it's odd. I remember one time in highschool I was walking in the hall way and some guy whistled at me and I just stared at him until he looked uncomfortable. That guy to me looked like a low life with no class. The guys with class are also more hard to get, they flirt differently. Not saying that your dad doesn't have class but I hope he maybe didn't really mean what he said? lol

My Dad was born in 1942, so different time, different culture. My Dad was a "greaser" in his 20s. So yeah I have no clue how he would have felt about someone doing that to my sister. Unfortunately I can not ask him anymore.

You shouldn't do either to strangers. If you're in a relationship it's different; depends on how your partner feels about it

Depends on who and where. A stranger doing either to me is categorised as a cat call either way to me.
