Why do guys whistle at the ladies?

Dear, unclassy guys

why do you whistle at girls. I don't mean the girls that are half naked but the fully dressed ones? don't you know that's not the way to get with them?

Girls, have you been whistled at ? what did you do? would you go on a date with the guy if he later asked you out?

To be perfectly honest... I don't think I've ever heard a guy whistle at a lady. They still do that? Maybe at the club, but it seems like something that stopped 10 years ago in middle school =/ But in all fairness, I used to know girls that would randomly smack a guy in the butt and stuff like that. Not saying he may (or may not have liked it), but its still rude if unwanted. Though I'd think some guys just do it as a courageous and somewhat bold move to get your attention. Some girls like the "cute and awww" guys that personally ask for their name and number, while others like an outgoing guy that isn't afraid to see a lady he finds appealing and call out to her.

I can't even whistle myself. It just seems to be a macho kind of thing to do. I rarely see it happen too much these days.

I HATE it when I get whistles or catcalls on the street. It makes me feel so violated. I live in New York, so this happens often. The only way that I deal with it is to keep walking , maybe shooting the guy a dirty look (although this is usually a bad approach, since looking at him encourages him). The only way I would ever even consider going out with a guy who disgraced me in that manner would be if I later met him under different circumstances, somehow got to know his personality, and fell head over heels for him. Then I might be able to forgive his former mistakes. But if it's anywhere near the time of the whistling, he probably doesn't stand a chance.

I hate when guys with with no class purposely cat call in a disrespectful manner. My mom even get cat called right outside our house at night trying to go to work. Had to watch her go into her car safely for a week every night holding a bat just in case. Then the next week after my parents thought the guys wouldn't show up they showed up but we didn't know it. It sucks and I hate it when I see it being done and nobody does anything about. If they asked me out id express to them that a real man doesn't try to grasp a women's attention just to feel superior and tell him how unattractive it actually is to cat call other people.

Ya I was whistled at just the other day as I was walking across a parkinglot, the guy was hot but did I engage? Nah, I giggled a bit and it felt good but I didn't have time to go over and say hi although I would have. I think whistling is kinda cute, I don't see anything wrong with it at all. Have a sence of humor, have fun with something like that because it's not ment in a degrading way. Usually the girls that have a problem with that sorta thing are ugly and have never been whistled at. Just sayin... Haha

I was whistled at once but it justifiable I guess. It was in like 9th grade when my sisters and our childhood best friend were walking from her grandparents' pool to her house and we were just in our bikinis with towels wrapped around our waists.

It's annoying but I'm not going to lose sleep over it. Nothing ever comes of whistles, honks, cat calls, etc. because most of the time the guys just keep on going on their merry way. And that's fine by me. I wouldn't want to date someone that lewd.

Yes, I've been whistled at, yes, it's flattering, I'd smile and if in a bold mood, look back and smile. No, it would not raise the chances of saying yes if asked out, perhaps the opposite. Things that are too obvious bore me.

Whistling, shouting "Ay, baby," "Yo, beautiful," or even a "hi" is just that guys approach. Why would you knock 'em if their intention is genuine, and not gamed? Or they're just tossing you a compliment without anything further to follow.

Well a normal guy (like me) would never do something lame like that, but they think by becoming a douchebag they can feel superior over the other guys cause they don't have the balls to do it. Thus it is a vicious circle of douchebaggeriness and insecurity.
