Why would a guy puts his head down and start biting his lip when passed me?

I have liked this guy for awhile and we have been flirting. He goes out of his way to walk by where I am, I see him glancing at me, etc. We talk, but it is often brief and like he doesn't know what to say, so he makes a random comment and I reply and that is pretty much it. There have been times when he has been around where it looks like he is forcing himself to not look at me, although sometimes our eyes do meet, and other times have stared.

So one day I noticed that when I was walking toward him, he said hi and I said hi back, and then as we got closer and were passing, he put his head down and looked like he was biting his lip a little. I have never seen him do that before and was trying to figure out what that means in regard to me. Any ideas?

Well, I'm shy. And when I have a crush on someone, being close to them is really intimidating--uncomfortably so. So I try to avoid looking at them when I might catch their gaze, or sometimes I will actively avoid them so as to escape that uncomfortable feeling. He probably put his head down so he wouldn't have to look at you; the prospect of another interaction with you was probably overwhelmingly intimidating.

Here's what you do. Next time you pass him and he puts his head down or pretends not to see you, touch his arm and say, "Hi, (whatever his name is)." He'll act surprised to see you, and then start a conversation with him. He doesn't know what to say, so help him out by talking about him. Ask him how his day is going, how his weekend was or if he has plans for next weekend. Or even ask him about something he's doing. He might seem uncomfortable, but I guarantee he will appreciate it.

It definitely didn't come out seductive, so that never crossed my mind. It did look shy, and possibly embarassed?, like he couldn't make eye contact more than the brief moment we did when he said hi. I asked a friend, and they said maybe he was trying to pretend he didn't see me. But if that were the case, the hi that came out before he put his head down gave it away that he obviously saw me. And that same day, he went out of his way to come by where I was. Guys are confusing, at any age. :)

He sounds really, REALLY shy. I'm not the type to put people down, but how old is this guy? This is teenage behavior, maybe late 20s... but around your age, I hope you're prepared to take the lead in almost everything you might do on a date with him...!

Anyway, he's shy. You'll have to do some of the work if you want to pursue this guy (which is probably what you'll end up doing: YOU pursuing HIM).

He is in his late 40's. Yeah, it is kind of scary. I have met younger men that seem to be more confident than he is when it comes to me. What is funny is that generally he is a very confident guy, but when it comes to me he shows submissive and otherwise shy gestures. One time I even caught him staring at me and he then waved, blushed, and ran away once I spotted him. Crazy, huh? :} I like him, and he knows this, but he acts like he is scared of me. I have never seen anything like it.

Sounds like he is just too shy to ask you out. Many men fear rejection and embarrassment if a woman rejects them especially if it is in a place they have to be everyday such as work. If you like the guy and don't mind being a little forward tell him how you feel. That might be enough of a kick in the backside to make him admit his feelings for you.

I tried that. :) He already knows I like him, which hasn't stopped his attention. He actually started showing more. It was only recently he has ever put his head down when he has seen me, so that caught me off guard. I wasn't sure if that was a negative sign (disinterest) or a positive sign (shy, etc). And yes, this is a work environment.

Hmm that's hard to judge without being there. It is possible he is conflicted over the consequences if things go south since it is a work environment or that he saw you as a friend and was taken off guard when you told him how you feel. I think the best thing you could do would be to simply ask him and make sure he know there is no pressure so he doesn't see you as to needy.
