Because some people really do lack respect for other people. That's just the way they are. They live in their own little world to an extent, and it isn't just guys. When a person sees something they like, some of them are so self centered that the only thing they are concerned with is getting what they want.
Look at it like this. It's a blessing in disguise. These people are showing you their true colors without you having to put much effort into getting to know them. They are doing you a favor in that regard.
on the contrary. my ex has a boyfriend but she has told me she still likes me and that she wants me back, I've said the same. we're just waiting for her to break up with her rebound boyfriend. the guy who came after me, to break up with her (and or her to break up with him)
I read about this somewhere. Since you have a boyfriend, it signals to other men that you are desirable (because he's dating you for a reason), and that you must have some special traits that make you as such. Socially speaking, when someone is approved of by others, it makes them look more attractive as well. And, there are other factors that have already been mentioned.
I think girls have more confidence when in a relationship.

If the boyfriend is not going to do anything about it why not ?
My guess would be that it works often enough to be worth the effort.
My friend is doing that right now, but I will never because it goes against my code.
