Why do guys grab a girls sides?

I was hanging out with a bunch of friends and the guy I have a thing with yesterday.

The guy I have a thing with grabbed my sides a few times and each time I did different thing (I forgot a few)-

I pushed my butt into him a little
Pushed my shoulders into him
And kind of fell

When I pushed my shoulders into him, one of our guy friends told me I was doing it wrong and that I was supposed to push my butt into him.

Is that a know thing or something? Why did he grab my sides so many times?

Lol he's flirting and that's cute. It a subtle but intimate move on his end. He like touching you but doesn't want to overwhelm you probably. It's always a great feeling when guys put their around your waist :)
