What's the highest you've ever counted out loud?

I mean out loud, saying each number. Or in sign language counts as well, as long as you signed every number.

I remember as a kid that I used to count out loud with other kids. I think we got into the hundreds but got bored before we reached 1,000. Sometimes we'd skip ahead though to the thousands, or tens of thousands, or hundreds of thousands, or millions, but we'd cheat and skip. I don't think we had the patience to get beyond the hundreds without cheating.

We'd sometimes tie it to our steps like when walking on the street. 一! に! 三! 四! 五! 六! 七! 八! ... and so forth while shouting with each step.

In the US, I remember that song about 99 bottles of beer on the wall counting down. I don't know if I ever completed that song. :-D

I'm pretty sure I've finished that song more than once as a kid. I was committed.

As an adult, I got the idea to count to 1,000 at some point. I think I had read it somewhere and decided to do it on my drive home from work. It took a long time, I think over 20 minutes. If it was one second per number then 600 would be 10 minutes so that makes sense. I remember once I got to the end I decided to keep counting for a while since I had got that far, why not continue? I forget where I stopped, though.

Another thing about it was I remember hitting so many significant numbers along the way... 187, 256, 357, 420, 512, 666, etc.

What significance do you find in 187 and 357? I could see the power of two values, 420, and 666, but I don't know the significance of 187 and 357.

187 is a police code for homicide and.357 is a caliber of gun. It was just as I was counting certain numbers pop out. also like 567 or 678, 888, 747, etc.

That’s the number we teach up to in first grade. So we have to read it by 1s, 2, 5, 10… other times I wouldn’t be counting any further.
