How much do the small details in someone’s appearance affect your initial impression of them?

Usually we can all see someone and in a few seconds decide if they are attractive or not. But if they had dirt under their nails or their shoes were coming untied do these smalls details matter?

There's all those movies that are like "You can tell a lot about a person by the little details" but I always second guess that. Sure they have dirt under their nails NOW but that might be unusual. Maybe their shoes are a little old and they're on their way to get new ones.

So I look for the positives. How they did their hair today, whether they've dressed well. If there are negatives I try to be forgiving of that (if they look tired, maybe they had a bad night.) I probably make a lot of excuses for someone because I like seeing the beauty in everyone, both mental and physical.

Not at all, if someone has dirt under their nails or looks unkempt you don’t know their situation, they might be having home issues or financial issues… you can acknowledge them but don’t explicitly point them out :)

I'm a very holistic type so it's more like how everything fits with everything else. So I wouldn't even find dirty fingernails unattractive necessarily, for example, since maybe she's a gardener or rock climber or something. I'm just trying to see how everything fits with everything else.

I get confused on here with Qs like what's our favorite eye color or favorite hair color or even favorite dress. Since I base it on how it fits together with everything else.

We don't always get a second chance to make a good first impression. Sometimes these impressions have to do with minor details but no one is perfect. So hygiene is important to me & being well dressed.

The way someone walk in the room, the look he or she gives the audience or the shoes and how he places his hands wen talking
The way he speaks (whether nervous or confident and convincing)

I would just second guess those little imperfections but I don't really decide if that makes them unattractive. I would just notice what there nature.

They do matter overall, but everyone can have a bad day or week when they might not look their best.
