It’s happened to me a few times where I’ve met a guy and they’ve told me “I’m so happy you’re clean” or “you look so clean, I could etc.” like is that a backhanded compliment of what?

It sounds like a compliment. I think they mean you seem to take care of your body, have good hygiene and dress well. Have you ever asked any of the guys who said that what they ment by it?
