There's a guy I'm interested in and he's interested in me and he called me "cute as a button." I'm 28F. Isn't that usually for babies/little kids and/or little/baby animals? Or am I wrong?

Yes! But I enjoy being a little quirky when that mood hits me. Unless he constantly babies you I would very much assume that is what it was. A quirky compliment which helps it stand out, mitigates some of the seriousness of expressing his interest in you and doubles as a bit of laughter.

Nope... I would only ever say something like that about a object. I've heard people use it about little girls too though.

If taken in the (disputed) original meaning- or two- the comment had nothing to do with apparel fasteners. A small, perky person/item would have a simile drawn, thereto, with either a roundly-shaped "Button Quail" or a Batchelor Button (or similar trim, neat) small blossom or group of blossoms.

I don't recall ever calling a female as "cute as a button". But I don't think I've ever called a female as "ugly as an ape", either.

Side note: It also kind of depends on the guy too. Some men aren't comfortable enough with their manhood to take it that far off the cuff. They think it might make them look weak and show everyone who they really are. A scared little boy
