Help with talking to this guy I like?

There’s this guy that I like and had a huge crush on since summer and we recently started texting and I get the vibe that he likes me too but none of us are making a move. We text but it’s not about anything interesting. I want to have deeper conversations with and get to know him way more but I don’t know how. I have no experience in talking to the opposite gender or texting them. Basically what I’m asking is what do I do to initiate conversations that will help get to know our feelings for one another? How do I say it in a polite and respectful way of this is and why are we texting
