What is up with people hitting on me?

Maybe I am just too friendly towards others but on campus, some people would say hi to me and I say hi back.. we make small talk and then they ask for my number. I assume they want to be friends but then they get freaky and ask if I am single on texts. They ask if they can be friends with benefits too and call me cute.

I feel like these people don’t care about my feelings and just want a hook up. I don’t know why I look like a target either for this. Maybe I should stop being friendly?

So after reading some of these smart asses opinions that try to come off as I know it all I'm not going to do that. I understand though I'm going to go into detail cuz this isn't about me it's about you. You don't have to give out your number don't feel obligated. Make a social media for that stuff because once you give out your phone number they have it forever unless you switch it. That's mostly a safety aspect to give you an example only two people have my number my sister and my best friend she barely uses it. Secondly you have every right to turn them down be like no thank you you don't owe anybody anything you know that obviously. Talk to your mom or dad or even siblings they want the best for you they will give you the best advice because I don't know you I don't care about you like they do no offense. Go to family if you have cousin sisters brothers whatever they're the best for this because they will probably stab somebody in the neck for you.

Well the way girls signal sexual interest is quite subtle like looking away then looking back. I think it is well established that girls are so subtle that men don't get the signal.

We will take friendliness as a signal because girls are friendly if they have interest so you can't blame them for that. Especially as you give out your number.

It is a mistake for you to think guys are wanting to be friends rather than dance the horizontal polka with you. We have other guys to be friends with.

You can still be a nice friendly girl but don't hand out your number if it is not someone that you might be interested in. Giving your number will equate to interest from a guy's view.

You don't need to be brusque or rude in rejecting. In fact you shouldn't. You can just say your boy friend wouldn't like that.

No it's not your fault. Mostly, not all but Guys are attracted more towards external appearances in the first impression.
If they are taking their first move asking you out for hook-ups and all... That seems really casual. But the thing is, you should set some boundaries and judge a person priorly.

Guys who will be genuinely into you won't ask you out directly. They will take time, they might have some hesitation to ask you out. Just be a little healthy skeptic. Don't be harsh on yourself. You must be a gorgeous woman. God made us that way.

I got it a lot in Junior High, even from girls that hated Me prior to the grade, but the suitors disappeared after High school, so they either took the hint and word got out I wasn't going out with anyone or whatever drove them to suddenly want me dissipated.

Might have helped that I let Myself go at least in appearance and stopped being social, now the last one that I think wanted to have sex with Me had a rep for banging then accusing guys of rape afterwards so while prospects have lessened in number that have improved in quality either.

Bottom line depending on how old You are and Your Campus I would say it is either the "Hook-up" culture or Hormones.

Don't stop being friendly, don't let jerks ruin you like that. There is nothing wrong with being friendly. Some jerks just think a cute friendly girl are easy for some reason. I promise not all guys are like that some decent guy will care about your feelings and not just want sex from you. I think that's sad. On the one hand you have 65% of young men that have been single for a year or more.

On the other hand, the remaining 35 that are not in a relationship are the most animalistic narcissist i've seen (and i know some).
