A girl who's sitting quietly in a corner, laughing at something I have said, is cute. It could be an opener to further interaction.

Because I feel I do my best to expand my knowledge about many subjects, I do feel that a girl needs to be somewhat on the same level as I am. So by engaging with me in a 'debate' she can most certainly impress me with her knowledge and thus 'work for my attention'. Even if she would disagree with everything I say, the way she challenges me can 'work' too.

As for trying to talk to a woman who has been sitting quietly all night. The only thing I would do in that case is ask if she was ok, because most people when they go out, don't do so to sit quietly on their own unless something is majorly wrong.

I would however do the same thing if it was a guy! It's not the need for attention neither is it to impress anyone, but offering help if or when it might be needed seems the right thing to do. A simple 'no thanks' and I wouldn't persist further!
