I was at a party on Saturday and just realized a girl there was hitting on me. Maybe it's cuz I basically never get hit on by women but somehow I didn't realize all the flirting, touching and compliments till looking back on it today. In the moment I thought she was just being extra nice to me 🤦‍♀️

Yea sometimes it happens if I don’t pick up the body language or signs , I have gotten better but not 100 percent lol , if I am just being nice and friendly chatting , often times I will find out later on , that the girl I was just chatting with friendly , assumed I was flirting with her , the same thing happens to girls’ chatting with guys’ he will assume she was hitting on him , when really she was just being friendly. I always been an outgoing person that enjoys to socialize here and there and mingle with people , I was always told I was the start of a party , even when I am just being myself and talking to people. Every girl I been in a relationship with , would get upset with me because they thought I was flirting with another girl, when really I wasn’t , I would be dumbfounded like what in the hell are you talking about , I was just talking about to sports game or whatever just socializing. , wasn’t flirting whatsoever , yea my girlfriend is here with me but I am going to pick up another chick in front of her like come on , but apparently my personality comes out like I am flirting so I been told numerous times , so now when I am in a relationship with a girl , I just keep my mouth shut, because I know it will get me in trouble lol

As someone who doesn't generally initiate flirting ever, I struggle to recognize when someone else is doing so to me. Of course, there's times where I'm aware of it and have to find a way out of it, but there's also just a massive chance the other person is simply being nice.

I refuse to assume someone is flirting with me without very specific language cues. This is, in part, because I don't see myself as attractive or even fun to be around. In my mind there's no way I'm being flirted with so the thought never crosses my mind. I find it easier to just talk to everyone like an acquaintance or a friend. I'm certain I have disappointed a few people with my lack of reciprocation, but I guess they weren't for me if they weren't able to see through my wall of ignorance.

On top of that, I feel like a lot of people don't realize they're being flirted with unless the other person is simply too heavy-handed in their approach (complimenting bodies directly, using vulgar pickup lines, etc) but in those cases, being flirted with actively would feel disgusting or off-putting.

If I'm not interested then I don't really notice and just think a guy is being friendly. It's usually other people that say they were interested in me and hitting on me and looked sad when I didn't reciprocate!

I realize when someone is flirting with me, but sometimes it is after the fact when I decompress and go over the events of the evening. I'm not totally clueless, but there have been a small handful of times when I realized what happened in retrospect 😅

One time that one Girl at the Pub, we were sharing a table with, gave me a flower she got from one of those vendors who come by and told me its for me bec I am so cute. I was very flattered but didn't think much of it and proceeded to talk with my friends.

Later we talked outside and she approached me and we talked. She told me she likes my jacket and proceeded feeling up my arm/chest and even went under it to see how warm it is. I was completly clueless. I just thought she must really like my jacket and I happily told her were I bought it and how much I like it too. It was not until a friend pulled my arm and dragged me to the side to ask me wtf I am doing that it hit me what was going on. I was still in a kinda situationship at the moment that was "complicated" so I just told her I gotta go and left with my friends. Kinda regrett it now bec that situationship basically ended the next days and that girl was pretty attractive.

Well there was a few classmates who would, one in particular made it exceptionally obvious and I was clearly not interested kept reminding them “just friends”, “yep friends”, also me trying to change topic of conversation / ignore them flat out….
I wouldn’t put this under flirting, put this under annoying & naive.

When it comes to actually flirting, they came out strong which made it obvious though I wasn’t interested (didn’t even need to drop subtle hints since they assumed I was dating someone when I clearly wasn’t though whatever I guess lol)

No lies, it's taken me years to recognize it before. Like "holy shit, Janessa was trying to fuck me that night back in 2016" kind of obliviousness. I've gotten much, much better in the last few years. By talking to people like my sister, who explains things to me honestly. And by paying better attention. I used to think girls trying to fuck me just wanted to be friends and that's such a disaster for relationships...

I was absolutely clueless whenever someone was flirting with me. It’s almost embarrassing to think back on it now. I was totally oblivious. The worst part about it was I probably thought the girl was cute too and I would’ve followed up on her and everything had I known she was flirting with intention and not just being nice.

Yes. I was working at Dennys and my girlfriend at the time was chilling at one of the tables. Two girls came in and while I was taking their order I noticed my girlfriend was snickering. I later asked what was so amusing and she said they were flirting pretty shamelessly and it was hilarious how i was completely oblivious to it.

Yes back when I was 14. I was aware when it was the "popular" girl group doing it, but I didn't care. They were mean to everyone for a while, even me. But I couldn't for the life of me see that the girl I actually did like, liked me back. And she's run up to me and just hug me out of no where and I would just freeze. The problem is, women are so cryptic and subtle but expect men (and apparently other women) to know they are interested. This creates a problem for both sexes. Half of women complain that men don't pick up on their signals, and the other half complain they can't be nice to a guy without him thinking she is flirting. And really, it's often the same women complaining about both.
