I remember this girl I sort of knew, like I’d meet her every few years, super hot (humblebrag😎😂) and I’d be like “WHOA…” and try to talk with her, and then we’d realize we met before. Maybe met like three times over 7 years, let’s say, one-offs each time, and I believe she had a boyfriend the first few meetings, so it didn’t really go anywhere.

Years later, she pops back up again, on a Thanksgiving Eve bar night where I was a bouncer.

So, this is her hometown, so it’s like an unofficial high school reunion going on for everyone under 30. I noticed her absolutely surrounded by like five dudes, all of them trying to throw game at her, and she’s obviously just politely humoring them, but I could see she was a little annoyed.

Anyway, they all eventually dispersed and she was left alone near the bar, and I think she was just checking her phone. I was collecting empty glasses to drop off to the bar-back, and saw my opening.

It was perfect timing because they had JUST walked off. I just dropped the glasses on the bar next to her, and I said something like “Being the prettiest girl at the bar not all it’s cracked up to be, huh?”

I could just tell that it instantly disarmed her, and set me apart from the rest of these pathetically thirsty dudes while still accomplishing the ultimate goal of relaying that I thought she was attractive and was offering my services, haha. I think the physical attraction was mutual anyway, but after I said that, it was a wrap.

Asked me to drive her home after I got out, and a drunken mutual friend of ours tried to get in on the ride, and she was very assertively demanding that he be dropped off first, even though the route made absolutely no sense😂 So I knew I was in, lmao.

I have told this story before but since you asked nice I will repeat it.
I had a friend that used to ask out every girl that looked interesting. He got shot down a lot but he also dated a lot of girls. One day we went to a convenience store. He said that he was going to ask out the girl that worked there. So we go in there and ask if M (not her real name) was there. The girl behind the counter says she was not. Somehow my friend was able to talk her into giving him M's phone number. So he calls M on the payphone and it turns out that there were two girls named M that worked in the store and he was talking to the wrong one. After a few minutes he gets a date with the other M. So he tells me that he will just ask her out because the worst thing that can happen is she says no. I sort of took what he said to heart.
So a couple of weeks later I met a girl in a bar. She was the bartender. She was very attractive and seemed very nice and i wanted to ask her out. She got off work at 11 so I waited until then and I told her that I would walk her out to her car.
While we walked I told her the story about my friend and the two girls named M and what he said about the worst thing that can happen is they say no. I could tell that she was totally lost and didn't know what the heck I was talking about. So after I got done I just looked at her and said "So Wouldja?"
She said "What? go out with you?" and she smiled and I just said, :Yeah"
We dated for 4 or 5 months.
I used the same routine two more times and went 2 for 2.

I liked the silent almost start a line, changes mind, almost starts another.. changes mind. But hasn't moved away. And smiles genuinely and easing that you've caught them but fine with it. Had that a few times. You have to tease, "You were going to say what just then? Or should we go all the way back to the first?" And smile back. That usually loosened their tongues.

Oh wow, totally dependent on the person. And it's not generally "a line". It's an extended conversation where I alternately shock them, make them laugh, or leave them wondering what I meant. Keeping it going is much more effective than dropping some obvious "line" then standing there like a dummy.

my cheesy line that worked was when I was on a first date. We were at the bar before the movie started. She asked if I wanted another drink and I said you don’t need to try getting me drunk, don’t worry, I’m a sure thing. Her and the bartender who was also female both started laughing because I delivered it so perfectly. We ended up having sex at her place later on so I think it worked rather well.
