How can I tell if my friend likes me?

I hope he doesn’t like me. I really don’t want that to happen, but yesterday he told me, “I like you.” I laughed and said, “You’re such a joker, you’re funny.” Then he said, “I’m just joking and teasing you, I just wanted to make you laugh.” Also, I was talking to one of his friends, and he told me to stay away from him because he’s a bad person and stuff. Do you think he likes me?

The last thing he said was that he was joking. It could be true, it could also be him trying to play off his feelings of rejection. Who knows. But I wouldn’t look for an alternative meaning when you’ve got your fingers and toes crossed that he doesn’t like you.
