Is he trying to impress me?

If my ex-boyfriend, within context of a conversation, tells me that he's got a 4.0 GPA and has lowered his body fat from 15% to 8% since the summer without me actually asking him, as well as just telling me everything he's doing, is he trying to impress me?

Why would he want to do that?

Yeah, guys don't usually just randomly do that. So, there could be a few things going on here.

If you were the one that broke it off, he's either trying to impress you and win back your attention and or feelings for him. Alternately, he could be trying to make you feel like "oh wow! he's so cool now! I totally regret breaking up with him!"

Now, if he broke up with you, he might be regretting that fact, and could be trying to regain your interest in him. If he's a real tool (I'm not making any assumptions, just trying to give you every possibility) then he could be telling you this to rub it in, although he'd have to be a real prick to do that and I sincerely hope that's not the case.

If the split was mutual, he might be missing your relationship together, and is telling you this stuff as a kind of way to "feel you out," maybe gauge your reaction, see if you might be interested in getting back together, whatever.
