Just straight up asking a guy if he's into you?

There's this guy I know, and I think he may be interested in me. But I am not sure, and I don't do well with subtle flirting (if you're not extremely open with me, I am not going to see it).

Examples:

-He's always staring at me

-He's always asking me to be a part of his discussion group (we have a class together) or partner with him.

-He has a nickname for me.

Anyway, we don't really talk outside of class because I -never- see him. And I'm afraid that if he is interested, unless I do something, the interest will just fade away, because we don't run in the same circles really.

So, I want to ask him straight up. Is this a good/bad idea? How can I do it? I want to know if he's interested (in which case, we can make some plans outside of class to get to know each other better, because one class together is NOT enough), or if he's just being nice to me.

Personally I do not like games or blah... I want to know what someone is thinking. So I don't mind if the shoe is on the other foot and someone wants to ask me a question. So personally I don't mind.

HOWEVER, you might want to be a little careful of not coming across too forcefully. Why not asking him to go get a coffee or something after class sometime. You can even joke and say something like "If you are going to call me you are going to buy me a coffee." (yes kind of corny, but I am kind of sleepy) OR come up with some other light-hearted thing to say. Hopefully this will give you both an avenue to explore a little better.

I know I shouldn't be so self-conscious, but I'm still wrapping my head around the idea that he is interested in ME. How do I know he's not just being nice?

I would feel SO stupid if I asked him to coffee, and he was just like "um, no? I'm just a friendly guy or something"

first you girls are usually rubbish at judging if someone is "in" or "out" of your league. And second, you aren't asking him on a date, he is teasing/flirting with you and you are giving back... that is all.

The WORST thing that is going to happen is that you go have a coffee and you realize there is no spark. If for some reason you asked him and he went funny, just roll your eyes and say "It was coffee not marriage!" Lastly, life is sometimes risky! Take a chance!

well, maybe he likes you but don't go off the board just yet.. I mean give him your phone number somehow and see if he texts you or calls you, if he does and you do start talking more then he is interested and if you want you can ask... but make sure you guys are already more close cause if not he will think you want to hurry into a realationship and if he does not he will back away... so make sure you guys talk more before you do.

well 1st off guys don't really lose interest, it's always there unless someone new comes around.

and I wouldn't ask him straight up, just ask him out to lunch or something simple like that. Then learn about him/develop feelings, he will be doing the same

just ask him if he would like to hang out sometime. More than likely he is interested in you, and if he's asking to be your partner on projects and has a nickname he may also like you there too. There is a small chance that you have friend zoned after the small amount of time you have spent together over the year, but ask him to hang out quickly before the chance of dating him fades.
