Rejected by nerd-boy

Question

Daniel, the nerd I've been nagging about a lot lately just turned me down.. I asked him on Skype chat if he wanted to hang out one day. He said " No, I can't answer that because I don't know you well enough" I knew he was weird as f*** and shy, but he have some serious lack of social antennas.  Because he stared at me a lot and all of that stuff, but then again he almost ran away from my friend when she tried to talk to him so.. My friends have been saying that I'm WAAAY out of his "league", but that's not how I see it. I feel so AWFUL right now...

I guess the only positive thing about this is that at least you know how he feels now and you can try to move on from it. I'm sorry this didn't work out for you, but I do feel that it's best to know the truth and try to deal with it rather than always wondering and worrying about it. There may be a temptation to chase him, but I wouldn't do that otherwise you may come across to him as desperate... He knows how you feel now, so perhaps make friendly chat with him, but no longer pursue him unless he makes the first move. I hope you're OK and you can move on from this... It's no consolation now, but you will begin to feel better with time... :o)

Nerds are usually shy and awkward with the opposite gender and thus will avoid putting themselves in an uncomfortable situation. Don't mistake his confidence with his female friends with dating confidence, which is a common mistake.  Perhaps you should have tried a different approach, such as talking and spending time with him prior to asking him to hang one on one, so that he's able to be himself in a personal situation with you.

Well the fact that you stereotype  him as NERD boy instead of using his real name or acknowledging he is a human being with other attractive qualities sure shows how shallow you are. Looks are not everything. The guy saw right through you miss "I'm totally out of his league." He probably didn't think you were that attractive because attraction is subjective. Friends are suppose to comfort you, that's what girlfriends do. Sugarcoat.

Maybe its a good thing he turned you down. It comes off like you thought you were superior to him anyway. People don't want to date those who think they're slumming it with them. Your true feelings came out when you got rejected, maybe he picked up on that?

I consider myself kind of nerdy and now some hot girls I consider to be out of my league. I would never ask them out, because I assume the answer would be no. But if they asked me out, then I'd probably say no because they are out of my league and I would assume it would not work anyway.

I know it's a stupid reasoning, but I feel kind of intimidated by hot girls, girls out of my league. And it also makes me uncomfortable to be around them. It could very well be he does like you, but is just afraid to act on it. The weird excuse he gave you would be an indicator that is indeed the case. And if he ran away, it's a clue he doesn't want to face it.

So, he drooled and stared at you, ogled you, probably fantasized being with a pretty girl like you, and when the chance came, he chickened out. And you indicate he has a pattern running from girls.

So then, dust yourself off, you've seen his true colors, and move on. His rejection is not a reflection on you, you are a pretty young woman, very interesting, and at least a little bold.

Just don't let it get to you! Keep talking to him as a friend (if he lets you) and just go about your life, he will realize how much of an idiot he is for turning you down.

Look, some guys just haven't been educated, and lack antennas as you say. They need someone to teach them about relating to girls.

Why not grab him by his skinny neck and make him hang out with you so you can give him some lectures on social interaction and what girls are about?

Nerds are socially awkward and smart. If you're gonna give up now, then you had no idea what you were getting yourself into. Don't ever expect a nerdy guy to be as assertive as a jock. You gotta pull more strings in the beginning to get him to feel comfortable around you first. If you really like this guy, then I suggest you take him up on his offer of "not knowing you" and get to know him. Talk to him.
