Girls & guys, do you think beards make guys look more intimidating?

girls do you think it's easier to talk to or approach a guy with or without a beard? (I know girls rarely approach guys, but if you wanted to approach a guy),

cause there's a study that says having a beard makes a guy look intimidating to other competing guys (if they were competing on a girl I think), I can't remember the details of the study actually..

so do you think beards (from stubble to longer ones) make us look more intimidating or serious?

It depends. If its barely anything then it wouldn't change my opinion but I like clean shaven. A full beard makes them look intimidating. A really long white one makes me thing of Dumbledore and I'd think they'd look friendly. lol

Beard is a secondary sexual characteristic. Women don't grow beards however they also have secondary sexual characteristics (more slanted jaw bone for ex). Beards are often associated with testosterone levels. (also influenced by genetics so not always testosterone). In some cultures, beards are very attractive and in those cultures the men's genetics make it easier for theirs to grow because they were more likely to find a mate by being oh so sexy or higher ranked in status. lol At any rate, testosterone is also often associated with aggression. Which is why men would find second sexual characteristics of other men intimidating (beards). Women are also in tuned to this. In my psych class we learned that when a woman is most fertile she is more attracted to slightly more masculine men while at other times she is attracted to less masculine men. Obviously none of what I said applies to all men and women. But for example, I find very masculine men to be very intimidating, I'm conditioned or my biology promotes me to stay clear away from too much testosterone which signals aggression in males. Other women find it sexy. It amounts a lot to the biology of the woman, her culture, how her male role models looked growing up and her conditioning.

p.s. But when I'm in a certain frame of mind (use imagination) then I start focusing on the more masculine traits that my significant other has that I rarely notice. (i.e. muscles)

I love facial hair. Maybe not massive beards, but gosh I love anything from stubble to actual hair.

It's the "teddy bear" look to me. I do think it adds some maturity to the face, but I don't really find it intimidating. And since every guy with a beard I know has a big sense of humour I don't look at it as a "serious" thing either - realistically speaking, I assume someone clean-shaven is more serious.

I have a thing for sideburns not so much beards. I'm not intimidated by anyone when it comes to the whole approaching them thing. If I find you attractive, I'll let you know. Beards make you look older, but intimidating? Hardly.

Sometimes. It depends on the person. And the beard style. But over all the look of someone doesn't intimidate me. It's more of how they hold themselves towards being intimidating.for instance Jackie chan is a perfect example, most of the time you see him as a funny guy not trying to be intimidating at all. But you'll catch him at points in some movies where he shows he's mad and he ain't gonna give up easy, that look in his eyes, that fire. That's where true intimidation comes from.

IF it was wild and unkempt, I'd say that it's intimidating because he looks a little crazy. If it's well kept, I hate to say it, but it kind of makes him look fuzzy and more lovable, like a big bear. Also usually rounds out the face more, which also explains why I feel that way more.

I usually see three types of bearded people, the scary ones (bikers and such), the hippies or nerdy looking ones, and the old people. None am I fond of. I think that some stubble on a guy can be pretty attractive but when it comes to approaching someone with or without a beard I think it depends on the demeanor they give off, but I would definitely be unlikely to approach a bearded person.

Idk, a girl complimented my beard the other day so really I think it just all depends... some girls may, some may not.

All I know is that I need a beard to look (even close to) my age... my face is too pudgy-looking without one, haha.

I think it's kinda hot if it's trimmed, neat and marked well, very sexy. But if it is all over grown and down the chest then we have a SERIOUS problem.

Nope. Not intimidating,but it gives them 'mature' look. But I'm not really into full beard. (I find clean-shaven and guys with stubble more attractive)

I don't know if it makes guys look more intimidating. Maybe some guys do but then on other guys it just makes them look silly.

Its like this hot guy with beard gets girls, hot guy without beard still gets girls. Ugly guy with out or without beard gets no girls.
