Same thing the other way round here. As a guy, whenever I get asked why I don't have a Girlfriend (which happens frequently), I just laugh and answer "Look at me, are you serious?"
Then I go home and cry a little.
No, seriously, this is one of me most stupid questions ever. Just tell them that you are not "dating for the sake of it". That helps.
Oh, any while you're at it, please listen to "That's Why People Grow Up" by Morrissey. This has really helped me and was my favorite song for a long time. ; )

People ask me this often and I just answer them "I am not interested in having one for now"
I usually say, "I'm not going to bother with the wrong one." Because that's the reason.
if the person is single I would ask: I don't know why are you single too?

"Mind your business" if you want to shut them ASAP.
