Why do vegans always brag about how they're vegans?

I'm sure that at least some people here have fell victim to the videos of "Freelee the Banana Girl" on YouTube - a hardcore vegan who preaches nonstop about how veganism is the one and only way of life. And, yes, this is the SAME girl who explicitly stated that anyone who eats meat does not deserve to live.

Recently, she has made a response video (and a borderline-bullying parody) to another famous YouTuber, Ingrid Nilsen. In this video, Ingrid showcased her recipe of a chicken and egg waffle sandwich. Freelee's response is below:

My question is , why do (a large majority of) vegans CONSTANTLY brag about how their way of life is the only right one? Is it so impossible to just go about your business with your mouth shut and let others do the same? I'm sorry if this question might be upsetting to some people, but I really find these kinds of people very annoying. It almost makes me not want to become a vegan because of how awful they act.

Don't know but their arguments are incredibly illogical. In nature the animals we eat would be eaten by something else so its not sparing them (in fact by being a food sources we have created a need for them and in turn ensured their survival, something "mother" nature would not have done). We are built to eat meat so its actually vital to us, in fact without it we would not have developed the large brains we have (its the reason why most people crave meats and sugars because they are high energy foods). In short I don't think they understand how nature actually works instead having a fantasy view where things live in harmony and are happy instead of the every single moment you exist your struggling to stay alive fending off starvation, trying to reproduce, tryign not to get eaten yourself etc. So they think that some how eating meat simply because their animals that it is some how not part of the natural order (despite the fact that it very much is). I think the moral high ground also comes to play where they can be holier then thou and feel good that their "superior" to others (kind of like pacifism), its a way of pretending that they are doing something morally good when in reality their actions have no impact what so ever (I mean she clearly has no issues with violence if she claims any one who eats meat doesn't deserve to live).

@Psi_Unknown Yeah, animal fat has high energy, we actually see in anthropological evidence that the brain size jumped (well cranial size so assumed brain size) once humans began to eat meat more consistently (prior to that point they where scavenging). Their jaw bones actually decreased in size as well as meat (especailly cooked) took less energy to chew then plant matter (also a bonus, you never want to expend more energy then necessary when it comes to survival).

@Drooogie4 Educate myself? I believe I just pointed out that I am educated on the manner. Plant matter isn't vital either really, we can survive off of synthetic meal replacements, no need to kill plants or animals. Yet we are built for meat, its in the shape of our jaw, our teeth, our larger brains, the reward circuits in our brains etc. Their is plenty of reasons why we should eat meat, because we are biologicly built to do so. This is an inescapable fact, we are omnivourus and no, we eat meat because we are wired to not because of some abstract pleasure. But thank you for proving my point about the moral superiority. In fact your killing far more then a person who eats a steak, you are killing fields upon fields of plants and habitates to provide space enough to grow your food. Your killing entire eco systems because of the nitrogen run off which creates dead zones where nothing but algea live (they pull out the oxygen from the water suffocating any fish or life in general tha lives their) something which is required to produce enough food for commercial use, yet you do not get that sever a problem with ranching. They both cause damage but farming causes much more, plus you take into account the tapping of the aquaferes which havea finite amount of water that is dwindling we are predicted to have another dust bowl which will cause even more ecological damage that affects plant, animal, and human life. So what then?

I kind of agree with your points. Factory farming with plants can be ecologically detrimental as well as with animals. Trying to force water where it does not occur or stay naturally is at least economically prohibitive or unsustainable. (Growing plants is still probably better than growing animals in terms of certain factors like carbon output. Also, I recall reading it does take more energy to produce feed then animals, than to just produce vegetables, etc., and still get the daily necessary protein requirement.)

@Drooogie4 Actually no, their is no issue with heart disease, that has been proven to be other factors, mostly altered factory produced things like hydrogentated vegtable oils and such. Also what does having a concious have anything to do with it? You seem to have no problem killing plants? Or the insects that we kill in order to preserve those plants we later kill, or the fish that are dying off because of nitrogen run off. Why animals? Why are they special but no other life? I am at least consistently indifferent with the death of my food, you however seem not to be. What makes them special? Why do they deserve to live more then other things?

@Psi_Unknown Oh absolutley, it is not a perfect system and it does consume much energy for it (I question the carbon remark but that is a separate issue). My point is (as it often is) that if we make a claim we must be able to apply it equally and have the out come be the same. Its mathmatical, 2+2=4 no matter where you are at ie if you claim that doing something is immoral, then you can't just turn around and do the exact same thing and claim its moral. Its not logical and it is something that doesn't hold true across the board. As for the feed I do believe (but don't quote me on this) that feed crops are actually hardier then non feed crops so they are a bit less resource intensive and less prone to damage thus ensuring a higher yield.

@Psi_Unknown But even so one, we have the luxury to afford that cost (though for how long who knows (just because we can afford to now doesn't necessarily mean its good)) and two technicly the most expensive crop is grass since it consumes the most resources yet provides nothing and every one has it.(something no one likes mentioning). I would say, though I don't know if its feesable at this point, it would be better to go back to hunting (though again, so many live in cities it wouldn't be a feesable option) since it would reduce the meat intake to a smaller portion which we are better adapated to handle (the reason meat is mass produced is because we are wired to desire it because of its benefits but the reason we get pleasure from it is because it was rarer (same with sugar) so we would get a smaller portion then we do now, but because we enjoyed it we exploited the system to feed that reward circuit to a point that its not healthy)

Sorry I am not much for math (honestly the only thing I can't seem to get a good grasp on) But my point was more that its consistent across the board kind of how in a math problem each side has to be equal that what you do to one you must do to the other, that is the biggest pet peeve of mine is the inconsistent application of an accusation creating an inbalance in the equation. If its logical one way it has to be logical in reverse otherwise it falls apart.

@Psi_Unknown I've been vegan for 20 years. everyone, including my doctor, harassed my about protein constantly. funny thing is it's actually the easiest thing to get on a vegan diet. the only thing I had an issue with, in the beginning, was calcium. and that only because at 13 I wasn't really that into eating certain vegetables to get enough. all nutrients are extremely easy to get on a vegan diet. the only thing I have a hard time with is getting enough calories because I fill up too quickly, but that was an issue I had even when I ate meat.

Im by far the healthiest I've ever been. I have the most muscle I've ever had, i track my diet and i always hit my protein goals easily. So easily.

Its a false attribution of problems with meat instead of the various processes it goes through and the additves that cause it to be unhealthy. Cholesterol is also good for you, in fact its what forms the myelin sheath that allows for nerves to conduct charges. It also makes up many organ components as well. So again this was just scape goating, an attempt to quickly blame something simply removed for a complex issue. Which of course ended up, as is usually the case, being wrong. I would also point out that both you and @thewanderingme have proven the point of the question beautifully. If you wish to be vegan/vegetarian then thats your perogative however do not attept to force it onto others (you don't have good enough arguments to do so anyway).

I never claimed it to be toxic. though, technically cooking meat does cause it release many carcinogenic chemicals. yes, some cholesterol is good for you, and it can be obtained from healthier sources, such as coconut oil or palm oil.

It's how they seek validation because at the core of their personality they aren't confident they are living the right lifestyle or making the right choices. By making the other choices seem like shit they feel more confident about their choice.(this isn't exclusive to vegans nor is this all vegans just the big mouth ones)

There's something seriously wrong with Freelee but that's another story. To me as long as the animal was raised right (I don't eat veal) and killed humanely, I'll eat it. I won't lie and say I don't mess up and get my meat or dairy from a bad source. It happens sometimes.
Back to the point. Imagine if you saw people slaughtering puppies left and right you'd probably flip. I think it's the similar feeling to them which is why some may act this way. I'm not a vegan or vegetarian but I can see where they are coming from.
I think in order to understand their mindset you have to see killing an animal and killing another human being at an about equal point in your morality scale.
Most normal human beings look down upon murderers. Most normal human beings will preach that murder is wrong. Most normal people would definitely not mind their own business if someone were to talk about how they think murder okay.

Part of the problem with being vegan and wanting everyone else to vegan is that creating mass agriculture destroys an animals natural environment, it's not sustainable. Besides, not eating animals leads to over population and starvation among many species, if we eat their food what do they eat? I see them complain about not wanting animals by products in their food, unfortunately all vegetables are grown in animal poop, it's a by product. Many are vitamin deficient as well, many vegetables don't contain enough magnesium which is a necessary nutrient for health. I think being a vegetarian is fine, which they still eat eggs and milk. Not milking a dairy cow can lead to the cows dying from infection and eggs that rot on the ground due to lack of fertilization can cause salmonella infections of the surrounding soil that could transfer to young children or other animals killing them too. The French diet is balanced and you'll notice how the French often have normal weight to height ratios, I think the answer for health is to eat a balanced diet and not get lead to extremes.

I was one once (now I eat dead birds again) and I was in that culture. Nothing wrong with them, they are promoting what they view and have found to be healthy and they want others to see that they don't have to eat meat and can be healthy as well. It works great for some, and harder for others. For example, some LD runners are vegetarian... makes them lighter. Some weight lifters are vegetarian... etc.. I had a hard time maintaining muscle mass because I was so active and started to feel bad. I think you have to be more careful what you eat. Realize a lot of Indians are vegetarian sot hat works, not sure about vegan..

you really have to find out what works best for you.. I tend to believe the blood type diet is somewhat accurate and to use as a guide. but experiement.
Factory farming (a big promotion point for vegans) does seem quite bad for the animals so factor it into how you purchase. I try to purchase as high quality as I can... e. g. not farmed fish, free range stuff, beef from local farmer I know grass feeds them... etc..

But how do you "humanely kill" a living creature so you can eat it and turn it into waste? Animals value their lives just as us humans value our own. I (personally) don't believe there is any humane way to kill an animal when it comes to humans eating it.
