Why do we men drink whisky and beer instead of cocktails?

I love whisky, beer and cocktails whilst my boyfriend only likes whisky and cider but im starting to get him into cocktails. He says he actually prefers cocktails because they are actually generally nice and have good flavour. Most guys i know will drink cocktails and actually like them. I think its becoming more socially acceptable and most bar tenders tend to be male in my experience and most males i know have at least once worked in a bar or pub so have had to make cocktails and actually had try them to see if they were good

I don't particularly care what it tastes like as long as it makes me feel all warm and dizzy.

First time I got drunk was on Jagermeister and the first few sips were like the most bitter cough syrup ever but once I got to the bottom of my glass it was like drinking a serene freshly snow-covered pine forest. Throwing it up and it was back to yucky cough syrup.

Depends on the moment. There is a drink for every occasion.

I am out with the boys just talking about whatever. Beer.
I am at a club to dance and have a good time. Cocktails and shots.
Having a nice dinner out with my girl or with my family. Wine.
Playing poker or having a later night conversation after dinner with family or friends. Whiskey.

I drink cocktails. I’m comfortable in my masculinity. I don’t have to prove it to other people. So if I want a fruity rum punch with an umbrella in it, I’m motherfuckin drinking it.

Bloody Marys, Gin & tonics, Moscow mules, White Russians, stone fences, bourbon & coke, Cuba libre... all good cocktails.

Good beer tastes great. Good red wines are also tasty. White wine not as much but OK… Champagne sucks. Most liquor and mixed drinks taste horrible… You just drink them to get drunk when there is nothing better around.

Unadulterated whiskey is an acquired taste. But you have to get the good stuff. A good American Rye or Whiskey will be about $50/bottle.

Probably because insecure guys think that if you "watter down" your liquor with juices and such your a wuss and not "manly" enough to to drink it straight.

Beer taste better to me. Whiskey gives me that shock factor in the same way wasabi with sushi does. I like the feeling as it really stimulates me.

Cocktails taste like sugary hell to me. Not enjoyable at all. That is why I prefer whisky/whiskey and beer or a cocktail.

I will take a good beer or a whiskey (bourbon, rye or scotch) neat any day over a mixed drink. I don't like most mixed drinks much. I'll leave those for the ladies.

Depends on the guy, I like both. I tend to drink cocktails more when I'm at a bar due to ease of access, and hard liquor at home.
