Several foods go under this name such as fish or sausage but here I'm talking about the sheep version. A old sheep is sheared, slaughtered, and hung up ungutted before the remaining fleece is burnt off with a blow torch. This gives the meat a unique smokey flavours and the skin a soft succulent texture.

They are popular in west Africa but are illegal in the UK. However they are still produced on the quiet for African immigrants and of course some farmers and their friends have taken a liking to the dish themselves.

So have you ever eaten it or would you given it's illegal status and questionable hygiene?

I never ate ate sheep like that, but what you described seems like how people in my country prepare the pig. After they slaughter it, they burn the little hairs it has with a blowtorch and then they start cutting up the pig. Usually the layer with the skin and thick fat is cut of and moved to a small room where it gets smoked to be preserved for the following months, and then the meat that is not usually the best, is cut in small pieces and cooked on the spot to be given to the 15 or so drunken people who helped catch, slaughter and burn the pig.
Is this the same with what you meant with the goat, or is that a special dish?

Yeah, haven't they had a big increase in sheep thefts over there recently🤔. Anyway... I prefer to add my smokie flavor the european way, with delicious hard wood, after its butchered. The only reason that is traditional in Africa is they never had a knife sharpe enough to skin.
I built my own underground smoker with a side draft fire pit i can cover and let in more or less air with an old bath tub spigot. Works good but the wood has to be dry, dry, dry.
Rub salt and herbs on your meat first and you can hang those pieces up in the kitchen for months without them going bad. +delicious!

Never had sheep but lamb to me tastes awful so i wouldn't imagine sheep to be any good. Something been illegal to eat wouldn't stop me from eating it lol.
