To be honest I haven’t drunk either one of these in ages… well except maybe 7up mixed with vodka perhaps lol
You must live outside the US. 7up was an independent soda company Howdy Corp. Which was later bought by Philip Morris who then split the company with the international company to Pepsi and the US company to Hicks & Haas, merged with Dr. Pepper, bought by Cadbury Schweppes, spun off into the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group and then merged with Keurig Green Mountain. Pepsi makes Sierra Mist, A shockingly terrible lemon lime soda. 7up History Sprite isn't bad but 7up is better. Sierra Mist should be discontinued for all time.
I haven’t had either in a really long time either. Both are pretty similar.. trying to think of sweetness differences. I think I leaned to 7up as it wasn’t as sugary.. but still too sweet. Ginger ale is better.
I'm not a big fan of either or sodas that much in general but I think I prefer Sprite slightly more. 7-up seems sweeter to me and I suspect that might be true in an absolute sense since I tried looking up the calories of both and 7-up seems to contain slightly more. I prefer Coca-Cola (classic) over Pepsi for similar reasons, and apparently, it has fewer calories (140kcal for 12oz of Cola as opposed to 150oz for Pepsi).
Might also relate to caffeine content. I no longer like sodas very much but I love my black coffee, and I haven't tried looking up caffeine content but I suspect I'll like sodas with more caffeine in them. Most of all though, the majority of sodas taste too sweet to my palate. So I think I like ones that at least have slightly less sugar or artificial sweetener in them.
Ginger ale is one of the few I still like reasonably well, especially the "extra dry" types that are kind of spicy. I'll have a ginger ale sometimes at a bar if I'm trying to avoid drinking that night.
I don't like any citrusy lemon-lime type of soda. The reason why it was always something that my mom would give me if I were sick with a stomach virus when I was younger. I cannot stand the taste.
It's really weird I do like lemon lime soda. And will drink generic brands. But I don't care for Sprite. And when I was growing up we as kids only drank 7up when we were sick. Doesn't bring back pleasant memories.
Sprite tastes a little bit less artificially than 7up. However it's good two years or more since I drank one of them. The only occasion I drink sweet soda is with vodka and both are less suitable for long drinks.
