Cheese Toasty or Rarebit?

Both are classic dishes when you can't be bothered to cook but you've got the late night munchies. If you've never made either your probably the type of person who asks questions like "why doesn't my goldfish like playing on the carpet?"

A cheese toasty is layer of cheese melted between slices of toasted bread. Any cheese is used (usually cheddar) and it may be mixed with things like onion. It is eaten like a sandwich

A rarebit is a single layer of thick bread generously topped with a thick. cheese sauce rather than plain cheese and eaten with knife and fork. Most recipes contain a splash of beer so you have to drink the rest.

Finally if you're the type who thinks leaving a cheese toasty open and sprinkling it in Worcestershire sauce makes it a rare rarebit shame be upon you

I've heard of Welsh rarebit but never tried it.
As for cheese toasty, we call them grilled cheese sandwiches and I have them quite often.
The way I make them is: I put Kerrygold butter from Ireland in a frying pan on medium heat, then lay a slice of bread on top. Once that is golden brown, I add more butter, flip the bread over, and put cheese on top of the toasted side. I might use cheddar, havarti, gruyere, mozzarella or whatever I have in the house. It starts to barely soften as the bread browns. Then I remove that slice from the pan, add butter, and put in an other slice. When that slice is browned on one side, I set the browned side on top of the bread and cheese slice, turn the stove burner to low, add more butter to the pan, and flip the sandwich over into the pan. I put a lid on the pan to retain the heat and leave the sandwich there until the last side is browned.
When I'm done, all sides of the bread are buttery and golden brown, and the cheese is melted.
If I'm in the mood, I'll sometimes add some drops of hot sauce like tabasco, habanero, Louisiana mud, or whatever, on top of the cheese at the beginning.

I really like a good rarebit.

i adjusted a Rarebit recipe for cheese under the grill, the Rarebit one is far better and has much more depth to the flavours.

The however is though, if speed is the need then cheese under the grill is easy.

drunken food tends to be Cheese toasty with somethings random from the fridge added.

I eat cheese toasty. Never had rarebit but after knowing about it I will try it for sure as a cheese lover.

"Cheese Toasty" = Grilled Cheese for Americans. And, yeah, I definitely make those once or twice a month. I have an electric panini maker that does a great job making them.

Never heard of that in my life, but easily Cheese Toasty.
The rarebit just sounds like how about we mix in stuff that's gross like Worcestershire sauce or Mustard after looking it up I honestly wouldn't of been shocked if it said just add some Marmite for extra flavour.
I have simple tastes, cheese on toast sounds simpler and better. Though at that point I would just have Pizza instead.

I’ll take either. The only time I ever had rarebit was during my one and only visit to London. Cheese toasties are a food group at my place.

Here a cheese toasty is just called a grilled cheese sandwich. I like the British term better, but no matter what anyone calls it I’ll eat it.

I'll go with the first one, as it's a classic snack. Though, what kind of monster puts onion in that delicious toast? :P I'm pretty sure it will be equally good if you just put different types of cheese or/and ham.

I prepare this type of food only for breakfast. Although not as in the recipe, I prepare it more simply. I make toast on the way to work. I do the other one when I have time since I'm home at the weekend. of course not always.
