Triangles.

Not only is it more aesthetically pleasing while allowing for better access to the sandwich and a much more consistent spread of filling per bite, it is also mathematically more sandwich!

Really, anyone who does not go with triangles is a stubborn fool resisting the scientifically superior answer.

I feel strongly about this.

Like many things in life it seems i do it completely differently to almost everyone.
I cut mine diagonally but not corner to corner instead I cut from 1/4 of the way down one side to 3/4 of the way down the other side.

  2 Triangles with a lip i suppose though I am fairly certain triangles stop being triangles once they have 4 sides.
  
  The sandwich is cut in half and the 2 pieces are the same and can be stacked on top of each other as they are the same shape but you have to turn them around a bit so that the match up, if you just flipped them over after cutting there would be a long side and short side together.

No real reason for prefering sandwiches being cut into rectangles, but that's how I always saw it done nearly whole my life, to start in childhood of course. Just a habit I guess.
Actually that question only involves square shaped bread, which I nearly never buy anymore. I prefer a round shaped form of bread, which in all logic produces sandwiches without any angles ;0)

Triangles taste better because usually someone else made them. When we make it ourselves the aromas fill our senses so by the time we bite our olfactory receptor is already flooded. If someone else makes it we get taste and smell simultaneously, enhancing the experience.
