Have you ever eaten wet cake?

I've just baked my first wet cake just to see what they're like. A wet cake was originally a type of basic everyday cake that was prepared by women as a quick snack for their men. The quicker the men were fed the quicker they could get back to work.

It's a bit odd because you start off by rubbing butter into flour like making pastry before mixing in the milk and eggs and baking on a plate. I used a casserole lid.

I found it be ok but nothing special and think it would benefit from hot custard poured over and a lot more spice.

And no it's not actually wet, just moist.
