Do you like dried peas?

Question

I can't stand them but granny used to cook them for some strange reason. You have to soak over night with a tablet of sodium bicarb to stop you farting. Then you boil for hours and still get the odd pea that's hard as pebble.

Frozen peas are easily available and fairly cheap but you can still buy dried peas, so do you like them?

When I open canned peas or beans, whether in tomato sauce or not, it's delicious, but the few times I tried to prepare correctly dried peas and beans... Damn ! Never soft, in spite of hours of cooking... The advantage on the other hand of dried peas and beans is their nearly unlimited conservation period.

I'm not a huge fan, but there's a place for dried foods. They'll keep far longer than frozen will and you can use them camping etc when you can't carry a freezer with you.

They do need to cook for a long time though

Not my favorites, I prefer beans. Pea soup made on beef broth, with smoked ham/bacon and onion pieces is standard military soup in my country. This soup tastes much better cooked in huge 200 L pressure cooker than it tastes made at home.

I use them in my noods I think it just comes with the packaging though they are really good when you put them in boiling water

Add bacon, veggies and sausages and you have a soup you can eat with a fork. It's nice.

The taste differently to fresh peas and frozen peas. I do like them as a mushy soup. Good for a guy to have a substantial legume intake.

I use dried peas in soups and stews, and they are easier to store than frozen peas, but frozen ones have their place.

I used to bring them to school and shoot people with them. i had a big plastic straw that was the perfect size to use as a pea shooter.

Yes with some seasoning they actually taste good dry! They sell them as snacks in Asian stores.
