That's a tough one. I think in Japan, a lot of things might be considered strange to others that are considered very normal here. Maybe one is Ika no Shiokara.

Actually because I am half-American on my mother's side, I shocked Japanese people that I could eat it. It's not my favorite but one guy in particular was so amazed that I could eat it that he asked me to pinkie swear with him to be his best friend for life. I am originally from Japan though! But people still sometimes get shocked that I can eat certain Japanese foods. 😂
Ika no Shiokara is raw, fermented squid guts.
I like the wasabi version of the raw octopus.
@midnightmoon05 Takowasa? That's one of my favorite appetizers!
Yes… I like it…I am just terrible with names…
I don’t think we have fermented squid guts here.
@midnightmoon05 I love takowasa very much and always love to order it when available. I'm Nao by the way if you still remember me from my old account. Long time no see!
Of course. We miss you. We are coming to Japan and you and your wife need a vacation … come join us…
Salmon that they smoked above the poo of a sheep. I enjoyed salmon so ate a good chunk of it at once, spit it out because of how disgusting it was. The waitress laughed and explained it to me. It was the meal of the day so I had no idea prior to eating it haha.
They should’ve told you beforehand😅
I can’t blame you
I had whale “steak” in Sweden last yr. too gaming for my taste.
I had fried bees
when I was little my father and other guys from the village would catch snakes… hung upside down.. cut open the gut and take out the gallbladder then told me to swallow it whole…
I must have eaten other strange things that are consider weird in the western society. Like chicken feet…
Wow😳
I actually ate our dog's food when I was a kid :D and our doggo was stealing my food, so it was fun :D
I also ate chamomile flowers... don't ask me why, lol...
Adorable😁
I haven't eaten many strange things in my life. I'm an extremely picky eater. I wouldn't call it strange, but I've had elk, moose, and deer meat. They were all great tasting
My niece when she was like two at the head off of a tiny turtle.
In Haiti I had BBQ goat which was much like dark meat of duck.
Hog brains, kidneys and rooster testicles! Undeveloped chicken eggs without shells.
Squid Nigiri maybe. I do like different foods.
I had fried squirrel once.
What?😳
How was the taste?
I’m getting the hood struggle meals flashbacks 💀

boiled silkworm pupae. Disgusting
Octopus in Mexico at one time
soap bar
I tried it also when I was a kid😁😁🫶🏻
Shark
I tried shark meat once at a Taiwanese restaurant but it tasted and smelled so bad. I don't think they cooked it in a way that gets that sort of urine scent out of it.
@GuyAnswersGirls123 - My brother I. Law got some for us to try when I was 15 and was on vacation with him, my sister and my niece down in Florida Couldn’t believe I was a “man” eating shark lol. It had been boiled or steamed and it was FISHY tasting. Also got to see Space Shuttle Columbia blast off 👍🙂
Did you enjoy it despite the very FISHY taste? I think I might need to try it again since I don't think they soaked mine in acid to neutralize the ammonia. I suspect I'd like it much better if they prepared it that way first soaking it in an acid solution for hours.
@GuyAnswersGirls123 - Well it was like very fishy tuna taste but in solid chunk form.
That sounds pretty good! I love tuna. 💯I also enjoy and used to strong fishy taste being from Japan. It's just that ammonia taste I got in the particular case in which I tried it that turned me off so much. I'll have to try again, thanks!
Balut
That's one of the most extreme things to me. I've never tried it and used to trying a lot of exotic foods, but the idea freaks me out.
pussy of course
My ex-wife.
