100 Proof or higher Bourbon, not too sweet, and not too wheat, served neat, with maybe occasionally just a tiny drop of water, just a drop, in a rocks glass sans rocks, or in a Glencairn.
Pair that with a premium, medium-full Maduro, Corojo, Colorado, or Rosado blended cigar in a Toro, Churchill, or Double Corona Vitola.
Then sit back and enjoy.

Bourbon and food of any type doesn't work for me.

No beer with food for this guy, either.
As a young man, it seemed that I used to drink beer around the clock when party time arrived, but when it came time to eat, I switched to Coke to go with my repast, before then returning to beer.

If I want alcohol paired with food, a margarita or maybe a gin and tonic will suffice.

Oh I definitely agree there, I use whisky stones not ice and I quite like them dry so no water. No matter how many different stuff I try I keep going back to Jonny walkers double black It's probably best for my taste so far and what a choice of cigar most bourbon is good I just had a larceny and it was like leather don't why it's so highly rated i mean buffalo trace is good and soo much cheaper.. I like biltong (dried beef South African) with the straight stuff I guess you're more hardened than me 😂

I don't use stones, myself, preferring a room temperature drink.
But you do you.
As is said and is true, "Drink the whiskey you like the way you like to drink it."

A single droplet of water occasionally added causes more intense flavors and aromas to be released, at least for some seconds, until they then rather quickly dissipate.
I'd have to consult my whiskey sommelier for a more detailed scientific explanation of the effect, but one drop of water does not "water" down the booze.
It has quite the opposite effect.
I highly recommend trying it.
The sommeliers will use a pipette to add a drop of water to a glass of whiskey.
I simply wet the end of my finger in a glass of water and then shake a droplet off the end of my finger into my whiskey.
Mwah!

So, you're a Scotch guy, then, with the JW Black.
I've yet to acquire a liking for Scotch.
Maybe someday I'll come to appreciate Scotch, although my recent cardiac arrests and heart attack have brought my alcohol and cigar days to a close.

As with whiskey, so too with cigars.

I love cigars.
LOVE THEM.
Unlike whiskey, though, where I tend to stick with a few brands, cigars are a different story.
I love to sample new cigar varieties all of the time.
I find many that I simply don't care for, but that's okay, too.
I can always pick up, toast and light a different one at any time.
