Is Portillo’s a beef joint? We have ONE place in the Boston area (probably the only one in New England) that makes them, and it’s over an hour from where I live, so they’re few and far between, but SO good. I have a buddy who lives nearby the place so I put him on to it, and he’s big into meat smoking (PAUSE😂) and whatnot, and he started making it himself, homemade giardiniera and everything. He makes it for the Super Bowl party we both go to, it’s almost as good as the restaurant’s. Probably both pale in comparison to an authentic one from Chicagoland though. I gotta get out there one day and try one.
In Boston, we have a beef of our own, the North Shore Roast Beef. Thin-sliced slow-cooked roast beef on a bun (ideally an onion roll) with BBQ sauce, white American cheese, and some like mayo as well, aka “a 3-way” (we have an ordering lingo for ours too, haha…. I take my Chicago beefs wet and hot, by the way), but I’m not a mayo guy, just sauce and cheese. If you feel like a fat kid you can get a pizza roll on the side, just a deep fried roll of dough with cheese and tomato sauce inside.
I was fortunate enough to date a young lady from this town/area who put me on to this place about 20 years ago, they don’t really have this in the city or points south, or they do, but it’s substandard and not a known, popular thing. Shout out to Dena for showing me the light…
The Barstool guy is an amateur, UPS guy knows what he’s talking about. Always onion roll, always half in the wrapper, come on, this is kindergarten stuff.
Another great place is Santarpio’s in East a-Boston🤌🇮🇹 Truth told, I’ve only eaten their pizza…best in the state, for my money. But one day I gotta go in there and sit down, sample some of their other items. Definitely want to try all this stuff Action Bronson is getting into…
https://www.youtube.com/embed/wyzWeD__pwMThere’s a taqueria in Harvard Square (PLEASE don’t ask me to “pahhhk the cahhh”😒😒😒) called Felipe’s that I like a lot, and another called Anna’s that’s equally good, they have several locations in and around the city.
Probably more places I’m forgetting, maybe The Smoke Shop, it’s a BBQ place with a few locations, I go to the one in the newly built Seaport District. They’re very good, although the portions are pretty small for what you’re paying.
Alright, probably enough out of me, haha
In Cambridge and surrounding areas you are sort of spoilt for choice, from simple but incredibly tasty pub food, to more upmarket restaurants.
the following are the ones we tend to go to, friends n family.
https://www.oldbicycleshop.com Really chilled out and great food.
https://markethouse.co.uk The Markethouse is where we tend to go for birthdays and other events.

My hometown was Los Angeles. There are some great restaurants, but most of my absolute favorites are no longer there.
A fabulous Cuban restaurant called Versailles is still there.
There is a famous hot dog place called Pinks. Really good chili dogs.
There is a place called The Apple Pan that specializes in really good burgers and apple pie.
My wife really likes a little take-out place called Paco's Tacos.
My wife is from Cincinnati. Skyline Chili is a must. And the Montgomery Inn has fantastic ribs.
Superdawg... I remember Superdawg. Both of them, actually; they opened up a second a dozen or so years ago. Further up Milwaukee avenue. "Comfortably nestled in superfries".
There are parts of Chicago I really do miss; most of them are food. Sometimes the life of an exile truly sucks.
I grew up in Western New York State, an area not known for its restaurants. When my kids were growing up, the family ate at Pizza Hut more than any other restaurant, back when Pizza Hut still had eat-in dining, not all takeout like they do now.
No idea, I really favour bars over restaurants
Hell McDonald's and KFC and the Domino's the Pizza Huts ; what's not to love ❤️😘
We had 3 restaurants and the good one closed years ago
NYC and there's the best everything, everywhere, any time.
