When you think of muffin what comes to mind?

Back in Victorian times a muffin walloper was an unmarried women who stuffed herself with cakes while gossiping to her friends. But when you hear the word muffin what springs to mind?

Do you think of the soft bready type you have for breakfast, perhaps filled with bacon or topped with egg and cheese. Or do you think of the small billowing cakes, perhaps blueberry or chocolate chip.

Since I haven't been raised in a world of English words and English concepts, then Muffin, to me is a cake in a bakery. A cake I don't buy often, even not at all. Especially when the shelves I'm looking at feature:
