Of those options, I'd probably go with root beer for mixing it with whiskey. But I'm not a huge drinker. Do you ever just enjoy soda by itself?

Rum isn't my taste but both bourbon and my taste for peaty, smokey Scotch makes cola a better pairing for the cheap stuff (the great stuff is neat/rocks)
