Should I report a waitress who ignored a safety request for my baby?

Ok so yesterday there was a military parade across home and it's always held the day after my country's Independence Day. Afterwards, we all stepped out to have lunch outside.

I clearly told the waitress (repeated it twice) to NOT pass the soup on my side because my 14 month-old son is right next to me on his stroller. My instruction was to forward the soups (even mine) on the left side where my father was sitting, not on right side, not where I'm sitting.

Just then my mother stood up, racing towards my side and in horror, the waitress was serving my hot soup on my side, on top of my baby. I felt goosebumps at that moment. My mother kindly told her the dangers meanwhile I was left shocked. I gave her an angry stare. Ok so it was a mistake but I told her twice what to do and if that soup would've spilled, that would've been a horrible event. She served the other two soups on the left side, except mine. That was so lack of common sense. Every other waiters and waitress have followed that instruction, except her.

Honestly, would you have reported that? I was too upset to even speak to her or report it.

You should have put your arm up in the way instead of letting it happen if it was that big of a deal, super Karen. Don’t mess with people’s lives unless you want real enemies. You failed to act and protect your own child. You just sat there and let it happen and now you’re mad at somebody else for making a mistake, when you should only be mad about your failure to stop it. Pull your head out of your ass and think about what you’re considering doing. Getting her fired, she might lose her place to live. You better never go back there unless you want her getting revenge, or the cooks wiping their asses with your food.

FYI, I rarely file a complaint. It's really my mother that complains several times on restaurants for trivial things. My son's safety is the only thing that really got me. In fact, this was one of the few times my mother didn't even react her usual way and I reacted like her. I don't care about other people's lives. I care about my son's safety.
It's quite surprising to be called a white connotation label for the 2nd time. I wasn't born in the US (raised/lived there from ages 4-20 though), I'm not white and my names are in Spanish... Latina.

You need to check yourself. You’re thinking about ruining somebody’s life. You think that’s ok? Using your baby as an excuse to be a piece of shit is pretty low. People get killed for doing things like that. If you’re so worried about your baby then just stay home. I don’t care about what race you are.

I have to agree they likely have a miserable salary and yet that was a very easy request. I don't ask much. I'm just a normal mother looking out for his safety.

I get that, but what you see as an easy request is likely seen as yet another thing she has to do and remember without the pay to justify caring. If you had to deal with dozens of random requests a day, accompanied by attitude when it wasn't done, for an average of $3-5 an hour, would you care that some lady wanted soup served on one side and not the other?

Hot liquids over a baby are a serious safety issue, not just a minor mistake. You repeated your instruction, she ignored it, and that near‑miss could have led to severe burns.

Explain exactly what happened, without shouting or insults. That helps the restaurant train staff better and hopefully prevents something worse for another family.

I would not have reported it since nothing bad happened

strollers have covers... I would have taken care of it myself, if really needed

The care needed wouldn't naturally occur to me because I haven't socialized with babies. I wouldn't forget it once told though.
