What’s the appeal of eating chicken and waffles together?

Kinda a follow up from my other question. I had chicken and waffles for the first time at Cheesecake Factory a while ago and I’m honestly confused. The chicken was soooo good and the waffle was delicious but I ate them separately. I don’t understand the connection. lol.

Buttermilk Fried Chicken & French Toast.

It’s all about combinations & some unusual combinations actually work well together. In some parts of the world they eat chicken & waffles for breakfast. In some parts of the world they eat beans & toast for breakfast. In some parts of the world some people put vodka to their breakfast cereal & others skip breakfast & eat their own boogers.

As for chicken & waffles I guess if you like chicken & you like waffles why not have both & if you like chicken & waffles I’m sure you would like chicken & French toast.

The appeal is in the contrast and harmony at the same time 😄

Crispy, salty, juicy fried chicken against a soft waffle that’s slightly sweet and buttery, all tied together by syrup and sometimes hot sauce. You get crunch plus fluff, sweet plus savory, fat plus sugar.

I remember trying it in Harlem: one forkful with everything suddenly made sense, like breakfast and dinner hugging on the same plate 🧇🍗

I know the first time i heard of it was on a Snoop Dogg reality show. It probably started out as somebody had leftover chicken from the night before and had no sausage or bacon. So they decided to try the two.🤷‍♂️ it's weird how a lot of good combinations get discovered in such a way.

I used to think chinese food was terrible. But i just wasn't eating the right dishes. Not suprisingly i like a lot of the dishes with thick sauces containing sugar. Some chinese food is actually pretty healthy if you can get past the sodium. But not the dishes i like.😆 But this is my point. You might be turned off by the strange combination of fried chicken a lunch or dinner entree. With a breakfast staple. Well if you were eating Chinese food for the first time you might be turned of by chicken being coated in a sugary sauce. But if you don't know about it because the title like "General Tso's chicken" doesn't implicitly imply sugar, so you give it a try.

I’m so confused about the entire concept. I was actually in Tennessee a couple weekends ago, and there was a Waffle House nearby. I wanted to get over there but I was playing hockey or partying, so it didn’t happen. We don’t have them anywhere near me.

But is it what I think? Fried chicken on a waffle? And do I still put maple syrup on it? Is it BONE-IN chicken? None of this really sounds appealing, if yes. Especially if it’s just standard fried chicken with the bones and all. I struggle to even eat fried chicken with a fork in the first place, largely because of the bones.

If it was a boneless fried chicken tender? Maybe. I’m still dubious about the syrup/chicken combination, if that’s what it is, but I could at least entertain it if it was boneless. Basically, if a waffle is the base it’s resting on like I envision it to be, the chicken would need to be able to be cleanly cut through with the waffle. I don’t love foods requiring a lot of effort, honestly😂 Cutting around bone, I really like to keep that minimal, effort-wise. Obviously I’m not breaking a sweat or anything; it’s just an irritating exercise.

So, I’m with you. I don’t really get it, or not immediately, anyway.

Yeah, I don't get it either. I think it's a Southern White Trash thing. Part of their approach to a diet high in heart disease and diabetes.
