For me, nattō is a big one. The sticky texture and strong aroma were intense at first, but after a few breakfasts in Tokyo with hot rice, soy sauce and mustard, I fell in love.

Also really funky blue cheeses and bitter amari from Italy became favorites over time.

I would say that I have a number of acquired tastes that I was exposed to when I was a child (food) or as a teenager (art and music).

I was lucky enough to be raised by a family of "globetrotters" that traveled extensively and that brought back ethnic foods from where they stayed. While I had a disdain for Korean food, I grew to like it and now, I do love it, mainly kimchi, bulgogi and bibimbap.

As for art, I grew up going to museums, which was boring at first but when I was listening to audio guides about specific paintings, I found it fascinating, mainly those Dutch masters of the 16th. century. Music was always played at home. Not the modern type of music but classical and music from the 60's to the 70's as well as ethnic music such as Irish ballads for example.
