Which fruit do you prefer: oranges or watermelon?

That’s a real tough one. We used to have fruit trees in our backyard in Miami and the oranges every December is so sweet and tasty and the neighbors are going crazy and wanting our oranges. 🍊 I would have to say oranges

Do you have watermelon trees in Miami?

I live in colder apple country so we can't grow citrus fruit. Or can we?

I met a clever guy who had his own lemon tree. He planted it in a half whiskey keg and put wheels on the bottom.

Every evening when the temperature started to drop, he wheeled his lemon tree into the garage. Now that's thinking outside the box.

But if I had a garage I think I would like to grow avocados. If you're going to grow your own stuff, you may as well choose stuff that's expensive in the stores. I would never plant potato trees because it wouldn't be cost-effective.

never had watermelons but we did have lemons and limes. Avocados, grapefruit, pink, grapefruit, and tangerines and orange trees, and we had mango trees. We love the mangoes. And we had a Lychee tree as well

Maybe people in your area view apples and pears as a delicacy, while my people view mangoes, avocados and pink grapefruits as a delicacy.

@shish_kebab I love apples. I would always travel up to Asheville, North Carolina and get the Honeycrisp of , the trees, but I’m not a big fan of green apples.

Honey crisps are hard to beat. Fuji's are also good.

My cousin is going to pull a trailer into Apple country and get about two tons of free apples. When Farmers grow too many apples and can't sell them, they just give them away. But they don't want to mess with a box or two they want trucks and trailers so they can load them with front-end loaders and save time getting rid of them.

I don't, however, like what they're going to do with the apples. They're going to use them to bait bears.
But at least they eat the bears, it's not just about the trophy.

Dang, that sucks. But maybe someday you'll own your own orchard. Or maybe in your neck of the woods it's called a "grove." Yes, it's an apple orchard and an orange grove. 😋

@shish_kebab well I would like to get a mango tree and a sweet orange tree at least, but that takes years for the things to get big

I just asked AI about it. If you buy a sapling from a nursery you can have fruit in one to two years. If you start from a seed it could take a very long time.

I say go for the mango trees. You get some sliced up mangoes with sweet coconut milk and the chicks will be all over you like white on rice! 😜

@shish_kebab I love mango milkshakes. I haven’t had it in years. I really miss them. but the thing is my backyard is not very big for a huge wide mango tree or orange tree and I like to keep some open space so it’s tough.

I like pretty much all fruit, however watermelon is a big hit at home or Cantaloupe!

I’d go with watermelon 🍉

On hot days it reminds me of summers in southern Italy, eating huge chilled slices after the beach, juice running down my arms. Oranges are fantastic for zest and desserts, especially in Japanese-inspired citrus desserts, but watermelon feels more refreshing and fun, almost like a mini vacation in every bite.
