Is it wise for a man to be cautious around women?

Nowadays we live in a society where if you look at a woman the wrong way, you'd be accused of sexual harrassment or called a creeper. Personally, I'd never disrespect a woman. However, seeing that some guys harrass women, I could be folded in the mold as a harrasser because one guy did it. It's gotten to a point that if a woman sat next to me, I wouldn't acknowledge her at all even if she said hi. I know this sounds rude, but at the end of the day, no woman is worth me losing my freedom. It sounds paranoid, but I have think about myself. Wise or not?

It's very wise for men to be cautious around women. Men get screwed over by women regularly but we don't usually hear about it because it's not politically correct to discuss it in the media. In fact feminist organizations put huge pressure on media outlets to hush up stories about false rape accusations, for example, which are FAR more prevalent that the bullshit 3% figure quoted by the female responder above. Most of them fly under the radar, but occasionally one of the many false rape accusations make it into the limelight just because it's too juicy a story for the press to ignore. Like this one...

Yes it is wise for a man to be cautious. We do live in the type of society you describe. A creep has changed from what it really means and now is used to describe a man a girl does not think it hot. A clear example of this is I got introduced to girl then everyone disappeared and left us alone, I said hi to her, that was all I said and somehow saying hi to her makes me a creep in her eyes. So pathetic and immature. I will not sit next to some women in public because of the way society is. I was on the bus once and the only seats aviable were next to school girls I thought nah I'll stand thank you very much. Too uncomfortable and you can only blame society for make men feel this way. I know not all girls are like this and that is why I'll sit next to some but I pick and choose these days. I would rather stand than sit next to some. Men have to be careful.

I am pretty careful to because all I have to do these days as an ugly guy is glance at at a woman and I get a scowl or dirty look and I think that is rude and disrespectful. Imagine if I tried approaching a girl like that. Not all girls are like that but the ones that are have made it hard for the good ones.

The way I see it is like this if I get accused of something even though I would be innocent who are they most likely going to believe a man or a woman... I don't think I need to answer that.

Don't be cautious... just be friendly, polite, respectful, basically a decent human being? I think that's all everyone expects. I find some of your claims to be ridiculous with the whole women blowing sexual harassment out of proportion. Sexual harassment is a humiliating thing to bring to attention (legally and socially) and not something I or most women would throw around. It's hard as hell to deal with and "unpleasant" is an understatement.

About your direct question though, no it's not wise. She's going to think you're being unfriendly in some situations, others she might not notice it (if you two are complete strangers). Most women don't assume all men are out to harm us.

There is a difference between being cautious and being paranoid. I've been sexually assaulted on a couple of occasions. I still will say hi to a guy if he sits next to me and start a conversation because I know not all guys are like that. Yes our society has become more aware of sexual harassment and it's now taken more seriously. Most assaults aren't reported though and of the few that do less than 3 percent are false accusations.
It's wise to be cautious but not to the point of being rude and paranoid.

Yeah i usually don't go out of my way to talk to women usually because i am shy. But i also don't do it because maybe they don't want to be bothered plus maybe they would see me as threatening or they might not be attracted to me. Now all the girls who work in Starbucks that i see every morning i talk to and flirt with.

To each his own. I personally do not take such measures to avoid interacting with strange women in public. I have longed realized that in highly frequented public places, not including reclusive or desolate environments, the extent in which most people are under surveillance.
