Are shy guys afraid to touch their crush?

I have feelings for this guy who has shown all the signs of liking me. I catch him staring multiple times when I see him, and he always looks away quickly when I catch him. He is polite and does me tons of favors, uses a soft voice with me, starts convos with me sometimes, smiles at me, acts awkward/quiet around me and nobody else, etc. But then sometimes he avoids me and acts like I don't exist and it makes me think otherwise.

Another weird thing is that he always tries NOT to touch me on accident. He is so careful about it. He stands really close to me though at times, just not close enough to actually make contact. As creepy as this sounds he wears this cologne that smells so good and I'm so attracted to him and I just wanna tell him how good he smells and touch his shoulders and give him a hug but I can't! It's weird that a guy would try not to touch a girl so maybe he isn't interested I don't know.. Should I try to break the touch barrier? I'm afraid of how he'll react

Former shy guy here. He sounds like a nice guy with some social anxiety. You are right, he likes you. He's probably afraid to touch you, even though he wants to very badly. It's too bad that he's so shy, but he will get over it. You should try to break the touch barrier. Give him a hug. Or if you take a notion just kiss him. Shy guys can become terrific boyfriends.

Shy guys usually have bad experiences with girls, so we think if we touch a girl it will creep her out. I let the girl initiate touching because of this.

In general I don't like to touch people. Breaking the touch barrier after a few dates is fine.
