Why are girls so mean to each other?

I mean yea guys are mean to each other but I think if you compare the two more girls are mean to each other then men are. I'm not saying guys are better than girls in any way, we have our problems as well but I see so many fight/drama happen between girls. Why is that? Is this the reason why many of my girl-friends would rather hang out and be friends with guys rather then be friends with girls?

According to psychologists, men and women feel threatened by different things. Girls are more jealous when it comes to physical appearances, and guys are more jealous when it comes to power and status. As long as a guy runs in a circle where all the guys are on the same level, they don't have much to worry about. That's not even something you can easily see in another person. But for girls, you're always coming across other pretty girls, and it's obvious--all you have to do is look at them. You might have girls who group together with other pretty girls, then they talk sh*t about each other behind their backs. You might have girls who just talk sh*t about all the other girls. You might have girls who try to stay out of that because "girls are catty" (which is still insulting other girls).

Plus, guys tend to let things go more easily while girls hold grudges.

Most girls hold grudges longer than guys. Girls tend to form an alliance with a few people and if someone in there little group doesn't like someone outside of the clique then the whole group is supposed to hate her. It's stupid, but that's just how things are. We don't just fight and get over with it like guys, we fight and keep fighting. Every now and then you will find where some girls may decide to be friends again but no rarely. The whole thing with more girls wanting to be around guys instead of girls is because most girls just love to start sh*t and guys aren't like that. I myself prefer hanging with my guy friends and my ONE best friend rather than being around a bunch of bitches. lol. Everyone is different though and some may have different outlooks on this question.

Girls are mean to each other, no doubt about that. We are competitive, and our way of beating down the competition is to be snippy with each other. Even if (like me) you're a girl who hates drama, you have to make choices.

1. Be friends with fellow drama-resistant girls.

2. If 1 is impractical or impossible, you have the following options:

a. Go into survival mode and join in on the scratching and clawing

b. Start hanging with the guys more

Is it really so hard to understand now? :P

A study was done by a woman in the UK and she only hired women for whatever job they were doing in an office setting. She found that they formed cliques almost immediately. Productivity was fairly low compared to an all guys staff and a staff with men and women because they were pretty much being snobs to each other instead of helping. I can't remember any more of the details.

In my experience, guys that had a problem eventually fought it out and the next day, they were friends again. It seems to take quite a bit longer for girls to work things out. They are usually very catty with each other. I know I'm generalizing, but this is what I see. I would like to know the answer to this question myself.

3. To build self esteem by demeaning others

4. Because they believe they are better therefore are mean to the person in question

5. Because we are feisty and can be HUGE bitches

6. Basically because we can
