Why are girls so mean to each other?

Is it because they're insecure, jealous, or just mean? What do you think, and why?

the main reason I've come up with is some perhaps most women don't have the ability to have friendly competition like most men can.

by competition I mean anything from who's prettier, who can get the better boyfriend, a better job or just who can have more fun. Without honorable competition all that leads to gossip back stabbing and girls who are just mean to each other.

I just want to add not all women are this bad just like not all men are jerks. it's just a few bad apples ruining the bunch.

Their jealous it's sad to see young girls not getting along and arguing i think it happens with older girls to but you don't see it as much , I think it's all about growing up, worrying about having a boyfriend, life is tough with peer pressure and being accepted is hard as hell not easy

I completely agree! Girls take stress out in each other, rather than dealing with it themselves. Sometimes guys do it too!

We live in a society where girls are taught to be each other's competition rather than be equals and friends. We put each other down and easy ways to build our own self esteem. It's quite petty and women are barely now starting to learn to work together rather than constantly put each other down.

I just don't like other gals except my friends I see them as competition and bitchy things. I'm glad I'm not a lesbian because I wouldn't be able to deal with PMSing gals.

Any or all of the above but mainly just insecure and jealous. Jealousy stems from insecurity with oneself, so those go hand in hand and is usually the main reason.

Guys do the same thing. It's part of our genetic and evolutionary orientation. I'm not going to explain all the science but its natural to try and outcompete each other for the best mates and social status. Men do it, women do it. Welcome to life.
