I have three dogs, two cocker spaniels, Buddy and Samantha, and one very mixed stray, Lucy.
For the past few months, I've had an alcohol addiction, I drank as many as 20 drinks per day, at it's peak, and I was so sick that I couldn't work for a whole week.
In that time, my three dogs knocked down the gate in the morning to come upstairs and check on me. Their eyes were wide and glossy with concern as they saw me from the door frame, and they jumped up on the bed to inspect me closely.
That solemn moment made me finally admit that I had a serious problem that needs fixing. I've more than cut my drinks in half, but I'm still struggling to beat the addiction. I joined a gym today, which is a big step in the right direction, but if I was a gambling man, I definitely wouldn't put any money on me beating this addiction, and saving my liver. Given that my recent blood work showed that my AST (SGOT) score is 157, normal is under 50. And my ALT (SGBT) score is 256, normal is under 50.
So yeah, don't put your money on me doing anything other than dying from liver failure

Only pets I've had if you could call it that as an adult was an aquarium of fish they was relaxing to watch and low maintenance so that's why I went that route didn't have to worry about them tearing anything up breaking thing chewing on things of mine like I hear all kinds of stories like that it's like no thanks I don't want to come home to that. And as far as dogs are concerned I don't trust them I hate them because I hate what they do to people they don't they don't love us they're not our best friend that's a big lie from hell look it up there are over 12,000 people attacked by dogs everyday in the United States so 12,000 today 12,000 tomorrow and so on totaling to 4.5 million per year and the numbers are climbing. I think of Sebastian Caban he was only 3 days old when the family dog killed him because his mother coughed and that startled the dog and attacked him and killed him Jacqueline Duran was a dog lover and a sitter she was viciously mauled when she went to do her sitting gig she's now unrecognizable disfigured for life. Another story a woman was babysitting a couples baby the family dog they all loved and treated good ripped the baby out of her arms and mauled the baby to death that woman had to call the parents and say like I'm sorry and everything but my dog killed your baby today... What a schmuck! So I'm sure I'll get some feathers ruffled by this opinion but the truth is for the most part what I can see the whole dog lovers thing is nothing short of a dog worshiping cult what else can you call it when you have an 88 year old woman ball to death by the dog that she owned and loved it dragged her corpse around on the floor by her neck after she was dead but despite that her kids and grandkids pleaded with the authorities to still not put the dog down it's like oh I couldn't kill mom and Granny but still let it live huh? Yeah get out of here with that dog BS nuttery! Your dog does not love you does not have the capacity to do so. They only have their instincts which is to eat to breed and kill. I've seen countless stories when tragedy strikes when the dog snaps one day and turns on the family they all say the same thing they run shock total disbelief because it never showed any sign of aggression before and they treated it good so well the fact is it's still an animal and it it's unpredictable so you're taking the safety and your lives of you and your family members at risk whenever you bring them into your home
My maternal grandparents had 3 Boston Terriers, 25-30# size. My parents had one, 22# size. We just got our second BT, a 15# compact version. All were positives.
I’ve had pets all my life. There was never a moment in time where I didn’t have at least a goldfish. Over the years, we’ve had a bunny, four cats, four hamsters, like 18 goldfish, about 5 or 6 beta fish, and one dog (not all at once of course but several overlapping). Having pets helps me remember to exercise (my dog is hyperactive so she needs at least a 30 minute walk everyday), makes me feel better when I’m sad, and makes me feel safer.
I loved my kitty cat 😻 so much that she was like having a daughter. I had her for 13 years and enjoyed every loving moment with her. But I have to be honest, I can't handle another pet die on me. I was a complete wreck! I didn't want to get out of bed - ever after she died. RIP Abby girl
Well, my cat has kept me from feeling completely alone while at home… because I live by myself. Sure I get enough time around people while at work and don’t like to go anywhere on my free time unless absolutely necessary. So having my cat helps me out quite a lot. 🙂 I’m sure that without her my mental health wouldn’t be as great

It isn't something that you can fight yourself. I hope for your pets sake you reach out for local AA support. You aren't alone. They need you.
Mine have and are bringing me through serious illness.

My last dog when i was a child had to be put down because he jumped an old lady and my dad had to go too court over it. But know that i look back i was a dumb child that did not deserve a dog because i had no idea how to train or care for a dog and my parents were busy working all the time.
I'm sorry to hear about this. But I've had 2 dogs in my life about 30 years apart. I've had 10 total since being a kid of 7 or 8. These two I call angel dogs. But for personal reasons I'll not explain why I just know that Tina must have been and Cece must be.
It impacted my life enough not to want to have pets ever again. I had a cat that I loved until one day the cat was hit by a car and it completely broke my heart.
Mine is important to me and has helped me in the saddest times. She loves people, however she has a problem with certain dogs. I can tell her my problems and she tells no one lol.
Rangers, why are you posting here at all when all you have to say is that you're an alcoholic, no program or quitting drinking has ever worked for you and you're committed to keep killing yourself? You can't stop, you can't help yourself.
Do you want us to feel sorry for you? What is the point of you being here?

I'm not committed to that at all, I joined a gym, reduced my alcoholic intake to 25% of what it used to be, and I'm moving forwards more.
I'm hoping someone suffering from an addiction will take the first step, which is admitting that they have a problem, and take steps to fix it. Cause a big issue with addicts is getting over the hump of denial. Nobody needs to feel sorry for me
In order? My mother ran out on us when I was 5. I was brutally sexually assaulted by my female 1st grade teacher when I was 6. My mother showed up Christmas eve when I was 15. Acted lime the family was back together. Fucked my dad and bounced before Santa clause stuffed the stalkings. Then I was again molested by my 11th grade female teacher when I was 16 first mentally then physically. For 2 Yeats until I aged out when I was 18. Me fully in love and her just being a fucking pedophile.
