Why do girls act so weird?

So i met a girl through a friend ( his gfs friend) she is pretty and nice , i talked to her and added her on facebook , we chatted for few days then she suddenly told her friend that i should stop chatting her cause her ex boyfriend will be made ( they've been together for 2 years ) i stopped and never bothered her again even told her friend that i dont run after taken girls or girls for that matter if she wants me she knows where to find me... the next time we met happened during a festival my buddy went to see his girlfriend and she was hanging with her friend i pretended not to see her and my friend and his girlfriend wanted me to go talk to her again he even mentioned that she's back with her ex , i was like " hell no forget it , i have nothing to say, also if i am the reason they're back together then i am glad i could help... " but they kept trying convincing me and they even swore that the girl wanted me to talk to her , i was like fine whatever so i talked to her asked her about her ex about me if iam bothering her if i should text her or not , she said she liked me and my texts and i never done anything to bother her and a little about her ex boyfriend... fast forward we met a third time this time i asked her if i can be with her or not she said she has a boyfriend so she can't atm maybe if she didn't things would be much different , she is always really clumsy and nervous when talking to me , her friend admitted that this is the first time she doesn't know what she is thinking, her head is a mess , so why do all this and pretend to like me and meet me 3 times when she knows for a fact that , we can't be together , why not tell her friend to tell me that she is not interested why look at me all the times and agree to see me if she doesn't wanna date me , dafuq is wrong with her?
