Girls especially - why do so many girls hate attractive women?

Ok so I have this friend who sort of exemplifies the exotic sexy look no matter what she wears. (She's half Arab half Indian.) She's not slutty but she looks attractive/like she tries, and she's very pretty even without makeup.
We were walking this morning and a car drove by and apparently a girl gave her one of those disgusted/ew/"b$tch no" looks. She got kind of upset and said she hates when women do that - she wasn't doing anything, just walking normally! She was dressed pretty averagely for the area too. I said maybe it's jealousy. Any ideas as to why they would react with such... vitriol? (Pretentious word, I know, but still.) I think women are intimidated by other women being sexy but I don't quite get why, other than competition for men (which is sad, just saying). I had about a week where I finally decided I was attractive (thank God/God willing) and acted accordingly, and I got quite a few glares from women even though I was acting normal (or think I was? Maybe being more smiley/whatever than usual?). I haven't stopped but either I tune out the glares or they've died down... but in her case they keep happening.
Anyway. Thoughts?

She looks more Latina (slash Indian) to a lot of people here than Arab, at least to people who aren't that familiar with Arabs (as far as I can tell - she's told me that she gets mistaken for Latina a lot.)

That's a new one, look we girls can be catty towards one another but those are the ones with no confidence within themselves who have insecurity written across their foreheads, so to answer your question not all of us women are like that some of us are comfortable and beautiful in our own right and skin, pity some women rear their jealous heads Unnecessarily, i don't get it at all we are all beautiful in our own ways.

I agree with the "we are all beautiful in our own ways" - what's the need to cut down other people? I guess they feel threatened by sexuality but maybe that's just insecurity, I don't know. Sigh.

Yea i think it is to do with insecurity, if only some women spend more time and energy working on themselves instead of wasting it on tiresome jealous hating emotions would do them better.

Yeah - and I think it's very hard to be attractive in a long-term sort of way if you have that level of insecurity

Insecurity is instilled in most women as soon as they enter puberty and it doesn't really go away for most. It begins with gossip, then complaining about your own body, then comparing yourself to others. Insecurity leads to more gossiping, complaining, comparing and jealousy. It's a vicious cycle. Hopefully your friend doesn't get sucked into it because of the insecure bitches around her.

I am assuming its because she is middle eastern and people tend to act really hostile when facing one? Sounds like racism rather than just general girl bitchiness. It must be the terrorist campaign targeting people people who look middle easternish that they got people to be extra paranoid since 9/11 began.

She doesn't really look middle eastern though - she gets mistaken for Latina a lot. Otherwise I agree that it might be the case.

eh, i stopped giving two shits about what jealous people think of me about a year ago, when i realized that i will die one day, turn into dust, and life is too short to care about what people who have very little significance in our lives think of us. if someone gives me a nasty look, i give them a pitying smirk, give her a once-over, and do a fabulous hair flip. there lady, take it all in baby. look at me from head to toe, and remember me for quite some time.

One thing that I really dislike about some people, is that when you have low self-esteem, that's when they want to be your "savior" and build you up.
