Anonymous(25-29)+1 yDon't drink pumpkin spice lattes
Don't wear infinity scarves
Don't drink starbucks
Don't wear uggs
Don't wear sweatpants or running shorts to school
Don't post stupid shit on social media
Don't say you're not racist cause you have one black friend
This is just from my experience from being a black girl in a school full of "basic white girls". I know "basic white girl" is just stereotype. Just have your own personality. I didn't really have a lot of friends in my old school because I was black in a white school and all the othe girls pretty much all acted super similar. It was like they all shared on personality. I'm not saying all white girls act the same, but a lot of them liked all the exact same things, talked about the exact same things, and posted the exact same things on social media. If you just be you then you're fine.611 Reply
Asker+1 yI don't though. That's the thing... People are so busy stereotyping me that they don't get to know the real me
Opinion Owner+1 yThen you have to make people want to get the know the real you. If you look like every other face in the crowd the people will assume that you're just like everyone else. If you want people to know that you're different then show them. If you want to dye your hair do it, if you want to cut your hair then do it, if you want a tattoo, do it, if you want a piercing, then do it. Start creating a new unique look for yourself that shows the world that you're different. We live in a world where people judge people based on appearances. If you look basic, then people will assume that you are basic. If you like looking basic then you might have to accept the fact that there's a chance that you are basic. There's nothing wrong with being basic if that's what you want to be. Changing your look can really change the way people perceive you. Personally everyone thought I was an innocent angel before I changed my look and it pissed me off so much. In my head I think I'm a badass.
Opinion Owner+1 ySo I dyed my hair blue, got a whole bunch of new clothes, lost some weight, started painting my nails, got a badass hair cut, and now that I look the part other people actually think I'm pretty badass too.
Asker+1 yYeah but I still want to have blonde hair, love the colour pink, love Starbucks without being judged for it
Opinion Owner+1 yDude. People are gonna judge you no matter what you do. Welcome to the real world. By your description of your personality you do sound kinda basic. Tell me what makes you different. What makes you you?
Asker+1 yI am smart, unlike the 'dumb' stereotype, I have a passion for music and singing and I show it... I love writing songs, stories and poetry... I don't know what I'm really supposed to put
Opinion Owner+1 yWell that sounds not basic. Now just share those talents with the world. No one will know that you're not basic if you keep all your special talents and qualities hidden. Let the world know.
Asker+1 yThanks xx Im making my singing known but I don't know how to get the rest across...
Opinion Owner+1 yDude if you're smart then raise your hand and answer more questions in class more so everyone knows it. You can even offer to help people who need it. I'm also really smart and tutoring people is a really easy way to make friends. That's actually how I made most of my friends when I transferred schools. If you like music then sing your heart out. Put in on youtube. Sing in public if you're comfortable. Sing songs from all genre's of music. I'm black and I prefer Sia more than most rap music. Don't conform to the stereotype if you don't want to be the stereotype. Don't just listen to stereotypical white people music like Taylor Swift. Listen to all types of music. If you want the world to see your writing then let people read it. Share it with friends, present it in class, or you could post it on a website or app that's specifically for writers. I know there's wattpad or something like that. It's like an app where people write and share stories and books I think.
Asker+1 yYeah xx Thanks xx
Opinion Owner+1 yNo problem

+1 yHave some depth to your personality. If you just like what's super popular you're boring. Get some creativity. Think outside the box with your clothes. Watch look book videos. Get ideas. Don't just go to the teen store and pick out whatever you see. Go for stuff that a lot of people would over look. Check out other music. Life is so short to listen to the top 40 list forever. However, you risk looking like you try too hard, which is 1000x worse. You have to be yourself and tune out society a little. Be your own unique mix. Be a leader, not a follower. Find something new that you're into. I like embroidery, mice, cats and bees. Why? Because I like those things, and I don't need any more reason. Don't try to be basic, alternative, artsy. Just make it up. Aesthetic, you're in grave need of aesthetic! Strive for individuality!

Asker+1 yI do!! But I still get given the label...

Maybe you act basic tho if you have a personality then you shouldn't be called that
Or just maybe those who call you that don't know what it means
I think you should not care about what people think. If people don't see who you really are, and put label on you , Thats their fault not yours. You should continue doing what you do, wearing what you want. I hate people who puts labels, all individuals are unique...

+1 yIf you are a white girl people may perceive you as a white girl because of your color. But if you can get along with all people without making any distinction in respect of caste , creed sex , color, education , etc then you will be considered to be a normal human being capable of loving , caring , sharing your values with people around you. You should behave with people as if you like them very much. You should show your love and respect through your words and actions. Make friends with all type of people. Let people know that you are good at heart. Show that you enjoy connection with everyone around you.

+1 yYou can change what other people see but not what they perceive.
If they had the pre-judgment of you acting and being a certain way, then it stays. You don't have full control over that.
Just like me, I wish I could make everyone perceive me as a superior being but can I change minds? nah.
It's not like you go through harsh stereotypes or find yourself in disadvantaged positions where others are privileged. Be grateful for what you have.05 Reply

What's wrong with being a basic white girl.
Asker+1 yIt means that I'm like any other girl
Asker+1 yAnd I'd rather be my own person
- +1 y
Being unique is when you stop caring about what other people think of you and let your own self flourish.
That'll guarentee you to be different because not everyone is bold enough to reveal or even find their true self because they're scared that people will ridicule them.
Of course, some are born more unique and special than others, others are just destined to be average people who come and go.

I don't see a problem being perceived as a basic white girl...:) But if you don't want to be perceived tha way, don't dress that way... also do some reading and thinking and be interesting in coversation, that helps.
Being interesting, engaging in communication and fun is much better than being dressed a certain way, what you drink , etc..

+1 yGet lots and lots of piercings and tattoos. Dye your hair multicolor. Dress weird. Talk in rap rhyme. Get a degree in a STEM program.

What's the errrgh for. The reality is that all those things, except for the STEM degree, don't really make you different or special.
If you want to be special, then make YOU special. Train for and get jobs other people don't. Study blacksmithing, glassblowing, chinese. Be an EMT. Take acting classes.
Who cares? Just live your life enjoying what you do.

Asker+1 yI've just been given that label and that's all some people can say about me now is just 'oh you're such a basic white girl!' And I hate it!! I have a personality...
Asker+1 yMmmm...

If a basic white girl is what you ware then be that. I used to care when I was younger. People would call me boring because I didn't party and I don't drink. I have my reasons, but people make a lot of assumptions about me based on little things. That's the way it is. That's why you gotta stay true always.
Asker+1 yI guess...
