What does it mean when a girl tells a guy that he's "cute"?

Personally, I take it to mean that they're calling me a pathetic little weakling, and that they're mocking me by declaring that I'm "not a real man" in their eyes. Instead, by calling me "cute", they're telling me that I'm no more deserving of respect in their eyes than a little boy, or that they don't even perceive me to be a fellow human being, instead looking down upon me as nothing more than a pet. As such, I view being called 'cute' by a girl as one of the biggest put-downs and personal insults possible, and take it as a surefire sign that I've been sexually rejected. And I've been rejected that way more times than I can count. Am I right, or am I wrong? And if I'm wrong, how am I wrong?

I just don't understand how a man's supposed to take "you're cute" as a compliment, or how "cute" translates to "sexy" for girls. You're the ones who yammer on and on and on about how we're supposed to be REAL MEN, about how any hints of softness, vulnerability, emotion or inexperience in a man are all are inherently repugnant, unattractive, unmanly and reject-worthy, and yet you girls have the audacity to claim that by calling me "cute" you're saying that I'm "sexy"? You think I'd buy that?

This is really interesting to me as i have wondered the same.
Its just because of how society has shaped the word and because of assholes who use words to insult. So for some reason it is ok for you to call us cute, which if I'm correct generally means you find us attractive and like us, and we take the compliment. But if a girl wants to return the favour and say the same to you guys it is taken as an insult. Also cute is a one syllabus word making it simply to say "Hey I really like your personality and find you very attractive" So can you tell me what word we can use because other words don't feel like they convey the same message, either less or too much.

No wonder us girls are sometimes seen as not as complimentary to you guys because we don't know what to say without offending you or giving the wrong message. Also Q why do you call us cute then? 🙃

Because girls are allowed to be soft, gentle vulnerable, emotional and inexperienced and immature. We generally consider these to be attractive traits. But it's not acceptable for a guy to be any of these things, at any time, otherwise he's "not a real man", and looked down upon by everyone, especially by girls, as either being a little boy or as being gay. Saying that a guy's "nice" SHOULD send the message you're supposedly trying to send far better. BUT, because of how society has shaped the word and because of girls who universally turn every single positive thing into an insult when it comes to men, we all know that telling a guy that he's "nice" is an even BIGGER insult, now don't we?

Yes that is true but that is also very stereotypical of society to say girls are to be soft and guys to be tough. I can say that I'm pretty sure I'm not fully all of these stereotypes, which I'm glad, then again I'm not the average, being brought up on a isolated place with little contact to people until age 14. Not everyone is the same, my difference is what my boyfriend likes most about me, this conflicts to your statement that traits you said are what you guys find attractive.
And yes thats exactly what I mean, with the words, "nice" is just as bad as cute to some of you guys, even I think it sounds like something a person says when they couldn't care less. Its a shame by the sounds of it you haven't met any real girls, but please we are not all like what you have said.

well. it depends. when a girl says a guy is cute. mostly it means she finds him attractive. i would prefer girls start to use words like handome. but don't read negatively into it cause you'll dorever remain a negative and lonely person because many girls, at least the ones i have come across have subsutituted cute for the tree rm handsome. if a girl thinks a guy isn't good looking she will not complement him in any way or form.

and to add to that. it also depends on the region of the world u come from. before i came to the US, i never heard of guys being called cute. in fact it used to annoy me because i didn't think cute did justice to a handome man. i didn't think it properly characterised the beauty of a man. but over time o realised that for the majority of girls it has become a mainstream term. with that being said. if a woman whobis very much your elder says u r cute. chances are she is stating u are good looking and adorable in a childish way. but ine thing it doesn't mean is that you are inferior. remember women and men ultimately have different thought processes. Dont be offended. Dont take it personaly its not healthy. u might miss out on good relationships because she used "cute " instead of hot or handsome. lol. sometimes just ask the girl. do u find me cute as in attractive or pathetic?

it depends on the type of girl, and also what she was referring to specifically when she said it. in general, some girls prefer cute boyish guys over gravelly masculine guys. on the other hand, some girls use the word to indicate strictly friendly or motherly regard (I would look out for this especially if she is older or taller than you) if you can figure out the type of guys she's into, you should have your answer

In my personal experience: usually a girl will call you "cute" when something about you (looks, personality, sense of humor, etc.) are attractive to her.

Unless you get a snide or sarcastic hint from it, you probably shouldn't take it as an insult.
